Usually, I make 2 trips to Kerala in a year. Shouldering more responsibilities has resulted frequent and longer trips. After a couple of days in Kerala I often crave for the kind of food we get in Delhi. However, I had very less options to choose from since our farmhouse is a little away from the city.
In the month of January 2023, I had to make a trip to Kerala. I decided to take my family along. My wife usually does not enjoy Kerala trips as she finds it a little too boring. Being a city girl I don’t blame her as we mostly spent our days at our property. However, this time around I decided to change that. Went to Munnar and kuttikkanam, staying at the best resorts. We even made multiple trips to Kottayam. It was then that we discovered this gem of a place.
This post is during my second trip to Kerala and I think it would be a sin not update you all about this cafe. I specially travelled from Erumeli to Kottayam for food. That should give you a hint of how good this place is.
Cafe Merakle is a little out of the city of Kottayam. It’s also a bit limited in space but let that not deceive you. The menu is also very well explained.
For lunch I started off with Chicken Caesar Salad, followed by Chicken Penne Alfredo. For dessert they had Panna Cotta and I chose Caramel Panna Cotta. I had peach iced tea to drink.
Chicken Caesar Salad: I’m always a little skeptical when it comes to ordering a salad. Some of the best places you might get the worst salads! Looking at the reviews I felt I should give it a try. To be honest I didn’t regret it at all. The salad was fresh and had a fair amount of chicken to the greens (20:80).
Chicken Penne Alfredo: I felt that this was one of the best pasta’s I’ve tasted. It was creamy but not heavy. It was not sweat as it had the right amount of chilli flakes and other spices. To my surprise it had the largest amount of chicken ever served in a pasta. I would say that pasta to chicken was 60:40.
Caramel Panna Cotta: It was exquisite. It was smooth, light and flavoursome. It hit all the right notes in my palate.
Peach Iced Tea: I believe I should write a line about this drink. I’ve always felt that drinks in Kerala are excessively sweet. But this one was just right.
Over all, we loved this place. Try it out and let your taste buds enjoy the best of...
Read moreWe were on a holiday in Kerala from Mumbai and my wife, son and I were on our way to Kumarakom via Kottayam. We suddenly realised that we could not ignore our hunger pangs any longer. As we were driving through Kottayam, I googled for cafés in the area and I randomly picked Café Merakle. We decided to give it a visit for our lunch stop and this decision was one of the highlights of our Kerala vacation.
As we climbed the stairs and entered the café on the first level, we were taken in by the friendly vibe and welcoming energy of the place. They have a versatile menu and after explaining my allergies, we ordered the Tender Beef Strips, Spicy Chicken Wings, and Grilled Prawns. We were completely blown away by the unique combination of flavours of each dish. The quality of ingredients was of the highest order, the presentation a visual delight and the taste mind-blowing. We ordered the Merakle Lime which was again unique in taste and finished our lunch with Caramel and Blue Berry Panna Cotta. Yum!
We left for our resort in Kumarakom with satiated stomachs and gratitude only to return the next day for dinner. This time my son ordered a Margarita Pizza, my wife the Grilled Prawns and I ordered the Chimmichuri Beef Steak. Again yum!!!
The place is run by the husband-wife pair of Jacob and Minu and we can see the tender loving care that they have put into each dish of theirs. To be honest, this is one of the finest cafés we've visited in India. And mind you, the prices are very reasonable.
For all those who would like to indulge in a culinary and gastronomic delight at affordable prices while in Kottayam, Café Merakle should be your go-to place. We wish them...

I recently had the pleasure of visiting one of the best cafes in Kottayam, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations. This charming establishment not only boasts a warm and inviting ambiance but also serves some truly remarkable food. From the delightful desserts to the mouthwatering garlic bread, every aspect of my dining experience was exceptional.
The moment I stepped into the cafe, I was immediately struck by the cozy and homey atmosphere. The carefully chosen decor, comfortable seating, and soothing music created an environment that made me feel relaxed and at ease. It's the kind of place where you can spend hours catching up with friends, reading a book, or simply savoring a cup of coffee.
Now, let's talk about the food. Oh, the food!. The menu offers a diverse range of options, and each dish is prepared with a level of skill and attention to detail that is truly impressive.
Another standout item on their menu is their garlic bread. It's no exaggeration to say that this cafe has perfected the art of creating the most delicious garlic bread I have ever tasted. The bread is perfectly toasted, with a delightful crunch on the outside and a soft, buttery center. The garlic flavor is just right, neither overpowering nor lacking, and it complements the bread beautifully.
The staff members are friendly, attentive, and always ready to offer suggestions or answer any questions you may have. Their genuine warmth and passion for what they do truly enhance the overall dining experience.
So Don't miss the opportunity to visit this gem of a cafe and savor the delights it...
