I had booked this place for my parents wedding anniversary, being a south indian married to h north Indian guy, thought that this would be a best place to visit to make my in-laws taste good authentic south indian food. To start with i must tell you I was in awe of this place every body liked the venue, ample space for parking, very nice Interior, I was impressed, beautiful south vibe, nice service, but everything can't be perfect I guess, rhe place does not have a washroom or a washbasin (they do provide finger bowl) & the food was very much disappointing. We know south indian food taste I am not saying that they shud provide authentic food but atleast a near to taste would have been great. List of food we ordered:
assorted papad- tooooo salty also taste of some kind of weird oil after taste. (To compensate unhone hume normal Appalam papad dia tha Rasam ke sth jo authentic khate h which was good.) š rasam- was ok ok, š ghee roast chicken served with some kind of pathiri roti (i guess)- so so so bad it was some kind of Koran chicken with sesame seeds i was lyk who puts sesame seeds in south indian food yaar, it was lyk chilli chicken ko chilli powder aur ghee me dalke saute kr dia total waste of money š chettinad mushroom curry-this was very good š must try Parotta- very crispy & tasty(must try) š Appam with veg stew curry- Appam batter had turned sour so not that great but can work out & veg stew curry was very runny but taste ok ok. š Ghee Podi idli- small idli tossed in ghee & gun powder, rai, curry leaves ka tadka served with coconut & tomato chutney. Good effortsš Tender coconut Payasam- THIS WAS TASTY but 335 bucks!! for a small glass of kheer kept in a wooden coconut shaped utensil bhai too much.. but theek h this is their myb star item so chlta h but yaar thoda sa quantity increase kr do atleast. š
A genuine feedback to the restaurant from a south indian- please provide near authentic food to ppl of north, south ke Khane ke naam pe kuch b mat khilao yaar, south ke khana sesame seeds wala ni Rai ka tadka wala hota h & har ek cheez me podi lgane ka koi point ni h (lyk in appam). Nevertheless.. Really appreciate the small gesture of the staff, they gave us Kesari halwa barfi (in house) to celebrate our small occasion which tasted ok ok š
Overall, thank you for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently went for lunch at The Malabar Coast by The Appumm House, located in COWRKS Noida (Sector 62). Iād got to know about this place through Google Maps and was in the mood to try something different, especially South Indian dishes that go beyond just dosa and idli. So I ended up here with my family on a Saturday afternoon.
First off, the ambience of the place really caught my attention. It has that coastal South Indian charm going for it! Beautiful wall arts, soft lighting and a calm, inviting vibe. We got a table pretty quickly too and the whole place had a nice, relaxed vibe to it.
Coming to the food, we tried quite a bit. Hereās what we ordered:
Mushroom Ghee Roast was a strong start! It had a deep, rich flavour that I like in Ghee Roast, be it mushroom or chicken. Vegetable Kurma was quite nice too, especially when paired with their Malabar Parotta. The parottas were hot & flaky but Iād say they got a bit too heavy when I had them with a rich gravy dish like the Chicken Chettinad.
Now let me talk about the highlight: Mutton Ularthiyathu. This was easily my favourite thing on the table. Itās been so long since I had a mutton starter this good. Perfectly spiced, tender and so flavourful, Iād honestly come back just for this. On the other hand, the Chicken Chettinad (boneless) was a bit of a letdown. It had too much coconut, the gravy felt dry and the saltiness overpowered everything else. Not really the Chettinad flavour I was expecting.
We also tried Vellai Sadam (just plain rice but with a different variety than what you usually get in North India) and Aam Ras, which unfortunately didnāt hit the mark at all. It tasted more like a mango shake that had been sitting in the fridge way too long.
For drinks, the Fresh Lime Soda and Masala Coke were both refreshing, though I was definitely enjoyed Masala Coke more.
Service-wise, no complaints at all. Everything we ordered came out pretty quickly and the staff was polite and efficient. We didnāt have to wait long for anything after being seated.
It was a mixed bag. Some dishes were amazing (mutton starter especially) but some didnāt work out. Still, the vibe and quick service made it a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirstly, a well-deserved commendation for the creative and multifarious menu, and the choice of calm ambient music evoking nostalgia in millennials and Gen Z alike.
Beginning the appetizers were complimentary pappadums (crackers) with an assortment of chutneys and condiments. After that, we ordered chicken ghee roast with neer dosa. The pairing was absolutely on-point and the smell of ghee perfectly permeated our palates.
Moving to the next course, we experimented with a pairing of prawn pulimanchi and Malabar parotta. While the manager assured us that the combination would work out, our tastebuds felt otherwise. When we pointed this out, the manager immediately apologized and suggested we try the prawn with some appams, and offered one on the house. That pairing was significantly better, bringing out the best in both of the dishes.
Next, we ordered a few more Malabar parottas with Sri Lankan chicken curry, which was nice, but we were already too full to judge this in depth. A standout note was that of cinnamon, so if you're averse to that, try something else here.
Ultimately, we topped off with tender coconut payasam. This is intriguingly presented by setting a metallic glass in an imitation coconut for aesthetic effect. This is one of the most delectable and unique desserts I've had the pleasure of consuming, made with a blend of fresh tender coconut, milk and almonds.
In summary, all the dishes were excellent in their own right, but due to size and variety of the menu, you have to be a little careful with the pairings. The side dishes, despite being great, do feel slightly lackluster in contrast to the brilliance of the appetizers and the desserts. The prawns had an extremely slight rubbery texture, but that could've been simply due to operational variance in ingredient sourcing. The Malabar parottas are some of the best I've ever had, and service was exceptional as well. A special thank you to the manager for all the attention he gave us throughout our near two-hour long visit.
