We were really looking forward to Low & Slow after reading the rave reviews and cause we had a hankering for barbecue. However, the entire experience was underwhelming. The place is nice enough. Simple, clean and well lit. Must mention the ladies restroom had a broken latch so couldn’t be used. The menu is limited in a good way and offers sufficient range of meats. The good news ends there. The brisket was cold and didn’t seem fresh. Tasted bland. The bbq sauce slathered on it didn’t do much to help. The smoked chicken with rice in oyster sauce was rock hard. The macaroni and cheese, the less said the better. They were out of macaroni and replaced it with spaghetti. The cheese was most likely Kraft or some other powdered version. All the food was cold, though we were the first ones there. The beverages were canned but fine. We had some ice tea and juices. The server was attentive but felt a bit too casual and intrusive. Overall, we were really disappointed. Based on the reviews we hope the kitchen was having an off night.
My response to the owner’s extremely rude, inappropriate and unprofessional reply to my original review:
Hi,
Let’s get something straight first. My review was polite and well worded. I don’t give a damn if you don’t like it. If you can’t respond with civility then don’t respond. I’m entitled to write a review if I’m happy or unhappy with the food, service or anything. If you have a problem with it take it up with Google. Don’t just say whatever the hell you want on a public forum in any language you want. Now with regards to what you’ve said… let me enlighten you.
A) Your server was at our table every 30 seconds to up sell some food or sell us another drink. Out of politeness and not wanting to be disturbed we smiled and sent him away. Also, I’m of the habit of commenting on my meal after I’ve eaten it and had time to process my thoughts. I didn’t see the point of sending food back because I don’t know how you can miraculously produce fresh barbecue? Your own menu claims it takes hours to make. B) Read my review properly before screaming like a banshee. I have clearly mentioned that we agreed to replace the pasta because we had a child who wanted to eat that specific meal, but it’s ridiculous to sell Mac and Cheese without the Mac. I assumed you use powder cause if you know how to make Mac and Cheese you’d know there’s no way to make it with another pasta and produce it in 5 minutes. Done right. C) I don’t what kind of place you run. It was the first time I’ve been there. Again, read the review properly, it clearly states I hope you were having an off night, but the arrogance in your response to a polite and honest review suggests that perhaps you never have an off night. You might have SOPs but if you can explain to me why the food served to us was cold and hard then I’d take you more seriously. Instead of trying to badger your customer you should focus on improving your food and service D) It is because of the positive reviews that I visited your establishment in the first place. However, I’m also not the sort to let anyone get away with a response like yours. It’s even less acceptable than the poor food and service. If you only want positive feedback regardless of the quality then again take it up with Google and have all negative...
Read moreLow & Slow is tucked away in the beautiful village of Goa Velha.
As you enter you're greeted with the sight of these retro lights that guide you towards the parking space that lies just to the side of the restaurant.
A member of the staff soon welcomes you and greets you with a warm smile, guides you to your table.
The menu is limited, which is a flag that is as green as Dublin on St. Patrick's day.
Having a few things on the menu means that they probably know their stuff inside out. As Bruce Lee said," I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
Similarly Chef Charlton must have mastered the art of cooking meat. Because the beef brisket which we ate first announced it so loud that my folks in Salcete called to ask me what all the commotion was.
The baby back pork ribs were perfectly done, and slide off the bone as easily as Messi danced through the Getafe players when he scored that goal in 2007.
The pulled pork and pork belly showed that Chef Charlton was at the top of his game. If I was a food connoisseur I would have waxed poetry about it, but I’m not and so I finished it all in a few minutes. Showing that at Low & Slow, you are allowed to go fast.
The pièce de résistance was the million dollar tenderloin, which luckily didn’t cost a million dollars but if I owned a company that shot rockets into the sky I would have paid that much.
We finally finished it off with a chocolate bomba. The dessert which I think they had ran out of but after having made a puppy dog face they somehow conjured it up with a few changes.
Overall I received nothing but warmth and hospitality from all the guys at Low & Slow, including the man himself Chef Charlton. He made sure to visit our table a few times to make sure everything was fine.
I will be sure to return here even though fuel prices and my cholesterol...
Read moreIf you're a meat lover visiting Goa, Low & Slow is an absolute must-visit. This hidden gem in Velha offers a culinary experience that's nothing short of extraordinary. Their dedication to slow-cooking and smoking meats to perfection is evident in every bite. We arrived as a group, eager to indulge in their renowned BBQ. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with a rustic charm that complemented the smoky aroma that filled the air. The menu was a meat lover's dream, featuring a variety of mouthwatering options, including brisket, burgers, pork ribs, and pork belly. We started off with their signature brisket, and it was a revelation. The meat was so tender it practically melted in our mouths, and the smoky flavor was perfectly balanced. The crust was crispy on the outside, while the interior was juicy and flavorful. It was hands-down the best brisket I've ever tasted. Next, we tried the burgers, which were equally impressive. The patties were thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection. The toppings were fresh and complemented the flavor of the meat. The bun was soft and held everything together perfectly. To round out our meal, we couldn't resist trying the pork ribs and pork belly. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and had a rich, smoky flavor. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, with a crispy exterior and a tender, juicy interior. It was clear that the team at Low & Slow takes great pride in their craft. The meats were cooked to perfection, and the flavors were bold and satisfying. The attention to detail was evident in every dish, from the presentation to the quality of the ingredients. If you're looking for a truly unforgettable dining experience in Goa, I highly recommend visiting Low & Slow. The food is exceptional, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is inviting.
