🌿 A Tranquil Retreat in the Himalayas – My Stay at Plant Pot Cafe
I recently had the pleasure of spending approximately 15 days at Plant Pot Cafe in Shangarh, and it was an experience that truly rejuvenated my spirit.
🏡 The Stay
Nestled amidst apple orchards and surrounded by the majestic Himalayas, the homestay offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The boutique rooms are tastefully decorated, blending comfort with rustic charm, and provide breathtaking views of the valley. The property is impeccably clean, reflecting a deep commitment to hygiene and guest comfort.
🍽️ The Food
As a vegan, finding diverse and delicious plant-based options can be challenging, but Plant Pot Cafe exceeded all expectations. From fluffy pancakes and smoothie bowls to wood-fired pizzas and hearty momos, every meal was a delightful experience. What stood out was the authenticity and love infused into each dish, with many ingredients prepared in-house. The use of fresh, local produce added a unique touch to every meal.
🌟 The Host
Sumee, the owner, is the heart and soul of this establishment. Her warmth, kindness, and attentiveness made my stay even more special. She, along with her dedicated team, ensures that every guest feels at home, going above and beyond to cater to individual needs. She is successfully embracing a plant-based lifestyle and creating this haven is truly inspiring.
🌄 Activities & Surroundings
The location is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike. Guests can enjoy treks to nearby waterfalls, visit the sunset point just a minute away, and explore the forests behind the property. The homestay also offers various activities, including yoga sessions, movie nights, karaoke, and barbecue evenings, fostering a sense of community among guests.

It's in a quiet valley with a few good spots to walk around and sit. There's a forest with a trail for you to explore too.
The rooms are comfortable and clean with attached bathrooms. And they all have a spectacular view from their windows. They are a pet friendly place. And also provide with extra bedding if asked for.
Sumi was a great host, even though she wasn't present at the property when we visited. Her managing skill even over phone with her kind and humble staff kept the show going smoothly for us.
Often a person's true character can be judged by the relationships they have built around them. Sumi went out of the way to ask for help from her neighbours while we stuck (in the middle of the night) on our way to Plant plot.. They were kind enough to get our car all the way to the property.
Last leg of the way to the property is a bit Rocky for if you aren't an experienced mountain driver, especially at night. Would advise to reach the property before dark.
Ah and the food!!!! Spectacular! Each dish we ordered was made to perfection. Sumi has done a phenomenal job in training her staff. We went on and on about how good everything tasted, especially it all being vegan. Wish we had more days so we could have tasted everything off her menu.
All in all we had a great experience. Wish Sumi and Tanmoy the best for all of their future endeavours.
It's a must visit place of you enjoy peace and quiet in the mountains. Felt like...

I had called and pre ordered food for us 4 hours before so that they can prep for it when we arrive at the cafe. After we came, they still took over 45 mins to give the food giving a reason that power is not there - completely understandable
I patiently waited and they gave me one of the 3 dishes - chocolate smoothie bowl. It was watery and cocoa powder was just added on top - it was bad. When I told that it was watery, the chef/owner got defensive and she told that if she has to replace it, then she will charge half of the price. I said no and she was reluctant, after an argument, she said okay but she'll not replace it and won't charge us for it - I let it be
Then, she brought the pizza (an 8 inch pizza for ₹695). It was burnt - but Kudos to her for giving us the option to have one slice and giving us the option to cancel. She was unnecessarily arguing so much and then I said don't bring the third dish.
After pre-ordering three dishes 4 hours before, if she/they couldn't even make one dish properly with due diligence.
They might be good at other times but when we went, it was a disaster. I'm writing this review while sitting at a nearby cafe after I placed the order here
The chef/owner is worst. She's so much ego on her sleeve - she's so defensive, very defensive and can't take feedback. This is not just a review, I'm sharing the worst experience I've ever...
