🌟 Gir Gamthi Restaurant – A Perfect Place for Authentic Kathiyawadi Thali in Rajkot! 🌟
If you're looking for a place in Rajkot that serves authentic Kathiyawadi and Gujarati food, then Gir Gamthi Restaurant is a must-visit! Located conveniently within the city, this restaurant offers a wholesome unlimited thali experience at a very reasonable price of ₹336 (inclusive of GST) — which is excellent value for the quality and variety of food served.
From the moment you step in, the ambiance sets a comforting, rural-meets-modern vibe. The seating arrangement is spacious and well-organized, making it comfortable even during peak hours. There's also a large waiting area, which is thoughtfully designed to accommodate families and guests. One of the highlights here is the children’s play area with swings and slides, which keeps kids engaged while parents relax — a big plus for families!
🍽️ Now let’s talk about the food — the true highlight!
The unlimited thali is filled with a variety of flavorful sabjis, each carrying its unique taste. What really impressed us was that the food was non-spicy yet very delicious, making it perfect not just for adults but also for children, elderly guests, and those who prefer milder flavors. Despite the low spice levels, the taste was authentic and fulfilling, which shows the culinary skill behind each dish.
Some standout items on the thali included:
Ringan no olo (baingan bharta) – smoky and rich
Sev tameta – tangy with a slight sweetness
Aloo sabji – simple yet heartwarming
Bhindi fry – perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned
Kadhi and dal – both were comforting and balanced in flavor
They also serve fresh rotlas, bajri rotis, and crispy puris, which are constantly refilled hot and fresh. Rice and khichdi options are also available, along with chaas (buttermilk) that completes the Kathiyawadi feel.
🍬 The Dessert Section – Simply Divine!
Two desserts really stood out:
Sukhdi – made from ghee, jaggery, and wheat flour, served warm and melt-in-mouth.
Live Sweet Bundi – this was the highlight of the meal! Freshly made, warm, and soaked in ghee — pure indulgence and a rare find at thali places.
Both of these traditional sweets left a lasting impression and added a sweet touch to the wholesome meal.
✅ Final Thoughts:
Gir Gamthi Restaurant is more than just a dining experience — it's a celebration of Gujarati and Kathiyawadi culture through food. Whether you’re a local, a tourist, or someone looking to give your guests a taste of authentic regional cuisine, this place won’t disappoint.

Read moreThose who like Kathiyawadi food would love this restaurant. "Ringana no olo" and Rotla are good. Sukhdi which they served is also super delicious. One more sweet was Rava No Shiro. When we visited they served Sev Tameta and Vatana Bateta sabzis along with Dahi tikhari in addition to Olo. Vatana Bateta and Sev Tameta, both the sabzis were average, nothing special about them. Tikhari was delicious though.
Chili bhajiya and Methi na gota in farsan. Both were okish.
They need to add couple of more good farsan and sweets to match the price they are charging for the thalis.
Most of the Kathiyawadi restaurants serve lots of different types of Achars but here we got nothing in the name of Achars. Chatni and Cabbage sambharo were served along with the Tomato, onion salad.
Service is fast as they have team of many waiters to serve.
Camp fire was missing here. When customers sit in open before or after taking the meal, a camp fire facility would be an attraction during winter days. People love to sit around the campfire and have chitchat with family and friends. These type of highway sort of restaurants are preferred by the public not only for having food but also as an option to spend some good time with family and friends.
