Disappointing! We ordered a paper masala dosa, mix veg utthapam and their special naivedyam thali which was for 395 and dosa/utthapam were around 200. They call themselves authentic south indian yet their sambhar is like water, one you make at home WITHOUT any vegetables! How is it even sambhar without drumsticks or any other vegetable?
Then next disappointing thing that ruined the whole experience was their coconut chutney which was actually 70 percent dal and remaining was the actual coconut in the coconut chutney, very shameful when street vendors can provide actual coconut chutney where this big restaurant is adulterating.
The Maharaja thali is designed by someone who is a stranger to common sense. They give you paiysam which doesn't have any dry fruits, rasam that should be given in a glass is given in a tiny katori, 2 malabar parathas which are fully made of maida, small nibble of lemon rice, huge lump of white rice, and 2 drops of green chutney hidden below the 3 puries. The only thing good in that thali was the buttermilk, the beetroot subji and the papad. thats it. Honestly a bad joke it was.
Coming to the mix veg utthapam, it was an eyesore, thin, very less amount of vegetables and small portion size for the price. Not much of a taste and here comes the surprising part. They gave a green mint chutney with the utthapam which wasnt given with the maharaja thali (Duh...) and that was the only saving grace.
Paper dosa was nothing spectacular either, tasted just like any dosa a roadside shop in north india would make. What was baffling was the masala filling (yellow aloo subji) was bland, no spices, and didn't feel like it belonged in a masala dosa.
I drove 45 kms to this naivedyam branch hearing good reviews on google maps versus their patel nagar branch but left with a bad taste in my mouth. The paan helped a bit. Don't go here. If you are from north delhi, try going into any branch of Shree Durga Dosa Corner. Taste is leaps better and...
Read moreFirst things first - The place is accessible only thru stairs.
Seating is kind of ok. Not expecting much
Ambience - they try to create a typical South Indian ambiance with all staff decked up in south indian attire, serving rasam as welcome drink, serving the food on banana leaf was refreshing.
About the food, rasam / chaach were really good. We ordered fried idli , it was a disaster - rather it was fried idli pakoda with baking soda as ingredients
There were good spread of dosas and chutney with good taste
Since i have lived in South Indian for a long time, i was expecting a much better and experiencing the real Kesari bath, unfortunately it was pretty much our typical north indian sooji ka halwa.i wish kesari bath was prepared in a typical south indian way.
In the end they served paan at a top up price, it was again a pure disaster. It was beetleleaf wrapped in sugar. Especially when the staff offers it as a add on towards the end of meal, the expectations was to elevate the dine in experience. It was a very poor decision. It kind of destroyed the taste buds.
Suggestion to the hotel management - either stop offering pan or change your vendor
The staff was least interested in addressing the feedback, ek kaan se suno n doosre se nikalo.
Only the taste of dosa saved the name for this place
The pricing was decent n one of the lucrative factor for the crowd to visit
If i were to come again - it will be because it is easy on pocket and surely i will not be experimental, just have basic dosas n go. The whole menu spread is a gimmic. They can only...
