After visiting the beautiful Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra, we were so hungry from all the treking that we could devour a horse. And we enter this Aamantran restaurant in Chababra, about a km from the Rashtrapati Niwas. We had tea in the restaurant adjacent to Aamantran the day before which was good. But the food at Aamantran is so mediocre that any dhaba on Delhi Shimla highway would put it to shame - both in terms of quality and by leaps and bounds by price. Himachali thali which was recommended by our server was anything but himachali. Dal tadka and mah chole ki daal were only the cheap copies of their Punjabi cousins. Chole with paneer was the worst combination that one could think of - tasteless. And some hard tried himachali dal with lot of amchoor in it. We also tried chicken pizza which was priced at 600 plus taxes. We were expecting a family size pizza but what we got was the smallest pizza one can find and that too made on a readymade pizza base easily available in the kiryana stores. The sauce used was a direct decedent of tamato ketchup with nothing more added to it. Then kor of cheap plasticy cheese and 6 chunks of chicken. My kid had half a slice and I could manage only one. Rest was dutifully returned to the restaurant owner. When I complained, the waiter as well as the person managing the counter were as cold as a block of ice. It seems they are used to this kind of feedback from their patrons. If you happen to be in Chababra and are hungry, and Aamantran is the only restaurant open, please buy a packet of bread and butter. It will be worth. Aamantran is a big disappointment and a bad example for the Himachali...
Read moreMy first experience with the place but I am sure as one eats more I will change the rating to 4.
Had taken a drive upto kufri when I stopped and did a takeaway from here about two weeks ago. Mostly everything on this road was shut at that time or restaurants were operating with only a portion of their menu and not full. Aamantran was not only open but the full menu was available.
Having eaten I was unable to have a meal here but did pack a few items for dinner the same evening. Pav bhaji, daal fry and paneer bhurji. Food was really nice although I found the portions to be a little on the smaller side given price.. But this is subjective. It is located in a high tourist foot fall area so priced accordingly. One had a hot chocolate while waiting which was clearly a premixed drink so while it hit the spot given the cold weather, one was not impressed with that.
A very very neat and tidy place with a large amount of seating. Friendly for all ages and very respectful, helpful and humble owners. Offers view of the mashobra valley and both veg and non veg available here across a few cuisines. Would rate it higher than the sher-e-punjab next to it although both are not 100% identical in terms of food. About a 15 minute drive from sanjauli and 30 mins from mashobra depending on where exactly you are.
Will definitely be eating / ordering from here again.

Read moreHorrible Service and Hospitality. They will loot you and take you for a ride if you give them bulk booking. Never go to them for bulk or buyouts. They literally looted the guests over their high priced room rates. Only go for dine in for average food. The owners are very rude and utterly ill mannered. Suggest to go for better option at such ridiculous prices. ADDING TO AMANTARAN REPLY - that is exactly why me and my team got more weddings after our planning and coordination. So wrongly put by amantaran in reply. Every vendor and hotel around WFH is cooperative and good but DO NOT GO TO AMANTARAN if you want an easy time there. They took exactly and every penny of 2.50 lakh. Charging a room for 4275 for triple occupancy is like a four star rate. Suggest people to go their on their own and judge and come back to me to tell who was right and who was...
