Hangout is the classiest example of how restaurants/food joints/cafes across the country misuse their 'right to admission'. It also demonstrates how, in today's time, it’s not customers, but service providers who are the kings. This weekend six of us headed to Kasauli from Delhi on an overnight trip. Like always we did our homework and 'googled' the places we had planned to explore. Since we had a fairly limited time, we had to carefully chalk down our to-do list and we zeroed in Hangout. We had sky-high expectations from Hangout as, on its website, it boasts itself as the "most happening bar & restaurant" not only in Kasauli but the entire hill state. However, our experience was not only disappointing, but also humiliating. Located in Kasauli Regency Hotel, we arrived at Hangout at around 3 pm on Saturday, March 21. As we (all of us boys) were about to enter, one Mr Ghanshyam Singh, who claimed to be the head of the security department at the Hangout, refused us entry. He said the place allows entry to couples and family members only. We were shocked. We argued there was no mention about such a rule anywhere on the company's website. Mr. Singh disagreed and said, they have prominently mentioned this there. This was the first lie. I checked everywhere on the website and found no such rule. We assumed the rule might apply to the bar area in the restaurant (which was also very impractical). So we asked Mr. Singh if we could sit in a separate section. But to our further dismay, Mr Singh said, “We don’t permit stag entry anywhere in our premises.” In fact, he gave such a cold reception that he bluntly told us to not waste time and choose another restaurant. At this point, we were all so puzzled figuring out the rationale behind such a move. So, some of us asked Mr Singh to let us talk to the manager to sort out the issue. Mr. Singh claimed himself to be the manager of the restaurant. We couldn’t believe such a bizarre rule exists in a place which claims to be the best restaurant in the entire hill station. We understand many hotels, for safety purposes, allow families or couples to stay in their premises. But in the guise of safety net, you can’t put a blanket ban on stag entries in a restaurant bar and that too during afternoon hours. What is the point? When we asked this to Mr. Singh, he couldn’t give a valid explanation and that was the worst part. Even after all this, we didn’t protest. We quietly walked back. So, were we showing any signs of misbehavior that we were denied entry? Did we visit the place during night hours when many such places witness greater footfall that we weren’t allowed to sit? Many restaurant bars in Delhi charge high premium in the form of cover charges for stag entries, why is it wrong to expect this at the so-called best café in a tourist place? I understand in many clubs in metro cities such as Delhi, an equitable sex ratio has to be maintained in order to provide a safety layer to women but I haven’t seen such a rule in any of the cafes. Wasn’t it wrong on Mr. Singh’s part to not offer a polite explanation to customers, who are the kings? After all, even if we aren’t allowed to enter today, we still are the potential customers as we may take our female colleagues to the place sometime. The Hangout management lied through their teeth. We felt humiliated and we treated shabbily. Moreover, it is not a great idea to misuse your ‘right to admission.’ After this experience, frankly, I don’t think I will ever recommend my family members or female friends to visit Hangout. Such experiences create a certain perception about the entire place. Hangout was a big letdown. We will escalate the...

Read moreWith great expectations, I embarked on a journey from Chandigarh to Kasauli, all for the sake of experiencing this restaurant. However, upon arriving, I found myself wandering down a narrow street, searching high and low for any sign of the eatery. Alas, no sign was to be found, and I was forced to resort to my instincts to locate it.
Yet, once I stumbled upon the restaurant, all my troubles faded away. The ambiance, location, and general atmosphere were absolutely superb! It was the perfect setting to light up my weekend.
However, my excitement quickly dissipated when the food arrived. Despite my lofty expectations, the veg platter was a huge letdown. The spices were far too tangy and raw, making it an unpleasant experience altogether. As for the chicken tikka chat, it was an utter disappointment. All I could taste was the overpowering lemon, drowning out any other flavors. In a desperate attempt to salvage it, I summoned the service boy to take it back to the kitchen. Unfortunately, it seemed that he merely returned the same dish back to me, unchanged.
Thankfully, the cold coffee and ginger lemon tea were delightful. It seems that the restaurant specializes in its drinks, rather than its food. So, if you're seeking a pleasant vibe and atmosphere, this place is definitely worth checking out. However i am not sure if the place serves a very good...
