Short: super casual cafe. Perfect food. Amazing ambience even when absolutely empty (which is rare) lots of options (too many for the glutton in me) for snacking and desserting. Extremely loyal and friendly patrons. animal friendly, kid friendly. My favourites here are the oatmeal and chocolate cookies, cinnamon roll, apple pie, lemon drizzle cake, fruit and nut cake, the chicken bun makes a great snack and so does the tuna salad.
Long: My tryst with The Fat Teapot began with a sudden yearning for a cookie. I with rushed off with urgency to 'Sonalini's place'. All I asked for was a cookie, with a little chocolate, not a chocolate cookie (if you know what I mean). Without batting an eyelid and with a most enigmatic smile (nothing was said); she just walked off to the other side of a curtain and like a magician walked out with a heap of oatmeal and chocolate cookie. That was hook, line and sinker for me. I bought 2, rushed off and demolished them far before i reached home. Since then I've been back a number of times. Quick service is not a USP here. You have to sit, warm the cushion a bit, look around, smile at the other patrons, pat a dog (defend your shoes), and appear interested in a book. Do all that and didi or Sonalini will appear magically, to take your order. (Which of course you haven't got because, well, you were looking at the curios in the cupboard). So yeh, service is not the speediest. But you can laze there for an entire afternoon, without ordering even a drink and nobody will say a thing.
I don't know the names of a lot of the stuff I've eaten. I describe a taste and Sonalini decides what I must eat. (Try it, it might...
Read moreThis is my most favourite place in Dharamshala (HP) to eat at anytime of the day. When I walk in to the cafe for breakfast it genuinely feels like home and I end up staying till the last supper of the day. Lol! My all-time go to choice from the menu has always been "The English Breakfast" with extra load of meat and a couple of slices from their "Lemon Cake". They make the best "Vietnamese Coffee" which is another favorites of mine at this cafe. A must must must visit when you're in and around Dharamshala. Not just because it is situated at the exquisite valley of Dhauladhar range but also being one of the country's top hygienic pet and stray-friendly cafes where one can indulge in a continental culinary experience. This time around, we went with our friends and tried their all new Autumn menu for breakfast. Each egg preparation was distinct, flavourful and oh so wholesome. Highly recommend that you...
