Horrible Experience โ Zero Empathy and No Refund Even During a National Emergency!
We had the absolute worst experience with The Quartz Himalayan Brothersz in Dharamshala. We booked two rooms via MakeMyTrip (MMT) for approx. โน14,000, and requested cancellation 72 hours before check-in due to the escalating Indo-Pak tensions and a war-like situation in the region. Flights to both Chandigarh and Dharamshala were cancelled due to airspace restrictions, yet the hotel staff showed zero empathy and outright refused a refund.
We explained our emergency situation multiple times. This wasnโt a change of planโit was a national crisis. But the hotel was cold, rude, and downright unprofessional. One of their attendants had the audacity to cut our call mid-conversation, and later blocked or call-forwarded our number to avoid any accountability.
Despite repeated follow-ups for three days, they kept giving vague responses and finally offered only a six-month credit noteโsomething we never agreed to or wanted. In such uncertain times, when safety is a concern and future travel is unpredictable, this โsolutionโ is absolutely useless. We requested a full refund in good faith, but both the hotel and MMT failed us.
What do they want? Should we risk our lives and travel in a near-war situation just so they can keep our money? Itโs disgusting that a business would operate with no compassion and zero customer support, even in the rarest of rare emergency situations.
Donโt be fooled by their fake reviews or polished images online. We were, and now weโve lost our hard-earned money. If youโre thinking of booking hereโDONโT. There are better, more humane properties in Dharamshala.
Avoid this place at all costs. For a business to lack basic human decency in the face of national emergencies is shameful. Weโll never recommend this hotel to anyone. If we had the option a zero star review would also be more for these people with no...

Also, the place is right next to the Norbilingka Institute. Might not be the best of locations from the perspective of a 'tourist' who would love to see a bazaar right next to the property and a super smooth motorable road leading right upto the reception if not to the room itself.
Hospitality: -God level. The owner, Mr Choniyang, is a very very helpful gentleman, always there to assist. The same goes for others from his family and staff. Tanu, Jayram, Parash, Ramesh and everyone else from the Kitchen and front desk are hard working and they do so with a smile on their faces, that's something to really learn from!
Cleanliness: Absolutely full marks here. Property is kept at it's best look always, rooms are clean and your requests are answered promptly.
Get around: Norbulingka Institute is a walking distance away. Check with hotel owner for good cafe/ pizza/ Japanese food joints nearby and they will be more than happy to assist. Also, one can take the trail right beside the hotel to follow the small water stream that runs by and treak up to the nearest village. The serenity, peace and natural beauty is...
ย ย ย Read moreWe reached the place quite late in the night, and they were happy to oblige our check-in. They had upgraded our room to a mountain view from a garden view.
The room we stayed in had a AC/heater feature. The heater wasn't as effective to cover the whole room but it did the job and warmed us enough to survive the night.
Staff was good and friendly but we didn't stay too long to actually experience their hospitality.
The view from our room was beautiful. A zen-like monastery feel. There are pets such as ducks, dogs, and other animals around to make the place feel lively during the freezing winter cold.
The single largest downfall is the road leading to the hotel. It's simply a nightmare, you'll need exceptional driving skills to just get past the stony and bumpy road and it's at-least half a kilometre long. Driving in those bad roads is enough to cause brain damage and vehicle issues.
The room itself didn't come with any special addons and it was extremely basic for the cost. But the mountain-view room is definitely worth the additional money over the boring gardenview rooms.
My single request to the hotel management is to get the road repaired as soon as possible. It's preventing people from enjoying a good stay...
