My earliest memory of a breakfast biriyani was at my in laws place 11 years before. As a new member to the family (I was newly wedded then), my father in law treated to the family tradition of a flavourful Biriyani from a neighbourhood outlet called Pandias. Which probably is the only place in Chennai (even now, after 11 years) serving Biriyani for breakfast, with a special serving of turkey Biriyani on Sundays & Wednesdays. Even today, I make it a point to plan my visits to my In laws, either on Sundays or Wednesdays, for a reason.

That aside, the case in point here is about the Hoskote Breakfast Biriyani which is so famous, that people travel insane distances to get a taste of Mutton Dum Biriyani & Leg Soup.

I have been planing to pay a visit to Anand Dum Biriyani, for almost a year now. I have heard horrid stories of huge lines, biriyani getting over before 8, hungry disappointed people crying to reach as early as 6.30 AM, the next time, made me procrastinate to avoid the sheer feeling of disappointment.

But with more recent posts, in various foodie groups, my temptation grew stronger and I decided to tread the dangerous path of Biriyani for Breakfast.

With a determination to sleep early and decision to have backup alarms for 5.30, today, a fine Sunday Morning, at 6.20, I kickstarted my trip to Anand Dum Biriyani @ Hoskote.

From my home, it was at a 15km distance, which is not bad, as I have travelled even greater distances for food. A quick 30 minute drive past the toll, took me to this bustling little place in the sleepy part of Bangalore, at around 6.50 AM.

After a quick glance through, I realised what is what and where is what. Without wasting any time, and the great fear lurking within, of going back without a box of Biriyani. I took tokens for everything they had to offer for the day. The menu isn't vast and is fairly straightforward, Mutton Biriyani, Leg Soup Paaya, & Chicken Fry. I took 2 Biriyanis, 1 Chicken fry & a Paaya soup. While it was easy peasy to get all the dishes quickly packed, the chicken took time to arrive from the kitchen elsewhere and that made me wait for almost 15 mins.

The plan was to bring everything home and eat breakfast as a family. However the aroma was too tempting, that I had to cheat and savour a little bit of the Biriyani on my way.

After the seemingly, long ride home to a eager family to savour this delicious biriyani, it all ended very quickly.

The hungry bunch attacked the biriyani, chicken fry and not so much of the soup, rested only after the platter was flatter.

Quick Verdict, one of the best Biriyani's that I have tasted, with the flavours of mutton emerging quiet strongly, bite after bite. Portions were decent with large chunks of mutton with & without bones.

The chicken fry was more like a semi gravy, with decent pieces with hardly any bones. The strong ginger flavours dominated this wonderful accompaniment to the Biriyani. At Rs. 80 a portion, its a steal. The soup was very flavoursome, again strong mutton flavours, liked it, but did not love it, unfortunately.

Easily one of the best in Bangalore, though not one of the top, primarily because of the large chunks of fat attached to the mutton pieces, same was the case with the chicken. That was kind of off-putting for someone who doesn't like visible signs of fat in their meat.

A great place to experience a wonderful vibe of foodies queuing up for a breakfast biriyani, a must try for any foodie who loves their Biriyani. It is a great place to experience & savour good, decent food, worth the long drive,...

The only "specialty" of the place: Mutton biryani

And do they excel at it? Hell yeah!

I had heard about this place from many people so, I set out to explore this (not so) hidden gem in Hoskote. The place opens at 5 am (and it was) and it's a strange time to eat biryani, for most people. But I LOVED it! The piping hot biryani is worth the effort of driving 30 kms and I was surprised at people complaining about the 'seating space'. It's a roadside highway food joint....and for that, it's great!

I'm not even a fan of mutton but the biryani was terrific! The spices were so well balanced and the meat was tender. Please don't go expecting the accompaniments like saalan, fizzy drinks and such. Simple raita is served with the biryani and I ate it standing outside the place. There is Parking but be careful if you're driving a car to the place. Idiots parked their bikes right behind my car and I had to maneuver quite a bit to get it out. It's easier to park it on the road side.

Work up an appetite and thou shall not be disappointed! The serving is enough for at least 2 good eaters. For poor eaters, maybe even 3 people.

In addition to the mutton biryani, there are some symbiotic establishments around - Chicken kebabs, paaya (leg soup), paan, desserts etc are available. The kebabs are available by weight (Rs. 240 per 400 g) and are extremely spicy, so plan accordingly.

Paaya was great on the cold morning, it warms up the soul (though the seller lady kept repeating to me that it'll be good for my knees 🤣) It's also priced at a meagre Rs. 60. We split our two way but she still gave us glass-fulls of it.

I didn't sample the desserts or pan, so no review there.....

All in all, for food enthusiasts, this is a must visit! Blue bloods,...

SUPER-FAST MUTTON BIRIYANI AT SUNRISE !!

They start at 2 am ! They are ready to serve by 6.30 am ! You should be ready to ready to reach there by 6.30 am. Once this happens, rest is easy. There is a line for buying a token. Token costs 190 per plate. You have then another small line for delivery, and another small line for “take out”. The Biriyani is prepared in a large container big enough to pass for a “baby swimming pool” ! They serve hot and fresh Biriyani on “natural ECO Areca moulded plate” with a Banana leaf topping.

Now the HOT Biriyani is somewhat flaky with small rice and medium spice, that dissolved on the tongue after some mild chewing. You can opt for a small "salad side" to make a good combination, and to further cool the spices ! The trick is to eat the Biriyani HOT ! If this cools down, the rice turns grainy and the meat stiff, and then this will hit the stomach with a thud ! The stuff is not devoid of oil and fat, and the meat chunks come with bones. All the meat is not tender though ! You need strong teeth.

They have an additional counter for Leg soup, We did not want to overload. The soup looked thick and dark with poor appeal. We let that pass.

For a small establishment, they run very efficiently and professionally. They turn out good stuff, pretty fast with tremendous value for money. Cleanliness is confined within their walls, beyond are rather untidy and messy. The entrance, wash areas, and eating areas [standing or sitting] are too basic. You need to bring your water, soap, and wipes ! In case you need to take out, must bring your...
