We came to this place in the evening. As soon as we entered, we had smiles on our faces because of the ambiance! The place is well lit and looks really good especially in the evenings.
But the smile faded as soon as our food arrived. We ordered the Alfredo chicken pasta and the chicken sizzler in mushroom sauce.
Alfredo chicken pasta - The pasta came in a smelly plate, so we got the plate changed but unfortunately, the smell remained. The pasta smelt like an old kitchen towel that hadn't been washed for a long time. The pasta itself was very bland and wasn't blended well with the sauce. It didn't taste great but it wasn't very bad either.
Chicken sizzler - The chicken was really bland. There was a really small portion of mashed potato which tasted good. There were minimal veggies and the mushroom sauce was below average. They could have included fries on the sizzler I guess.
Now comes the real disaster. The drinks! We ordered
Caramel Frappe - Looking at the description, one should think the caramel frappe would be amazing but that's not the case! It's just plain cold coffee with sugar and I think their definition of caramel is a lot of sugar.
Hazelnut Frappe - The description says finest ground arabica coffee with hazelnut flavouring but what I felt is, they blended two cold coffees and put it in separate tumblers and called it caramel frappe and hazelnut frappe! That's what it was, there was no flavour of hazelnut and there was no flavour of caramel in the caramel frappe. The presentation was below average. They could have included ice cream for the price they are charging.
Hot chocolate - This was the best looking drink out of the lot. The presentation was on point but the taste? Not so much. It was a below average hot chocolate. If you want great hot chocolate, you should try sugar dribble cafe in Ooty. You can subscribe to my youtube channel Rishank Ponnanna for more information on that.
Overall, it is a good place to stop while you are traveling from Bangalore for a cup of coffee but in my honest opinion, you should avoid their main course. I guess their desserts are good but I honestly can't comment as we didn't order them. We were planning to order the desserts but lost hopes after trying their main course. If they improve their main course, this can become one of the best...
Read moreIt all started really well with a great conversation with the owner of this 175 year old legacy of coffee plantation & roasting. A hog for such details, I gathered all the info i could about coffee roasting. Infact they have a coffee roasting machine in-house and they do roast the coffee in your presence which really amazed me. But then something really unpleasant happened which put me off completely. A classic case of a age old legacy being put down because of wrong recruitment and subsequent unpleasant staff. So, I was carrying my pet along. It isn't a pet friendly place. Hence with due permission of one of the employees (who also consulted the owner about this), I chose to take a table at the exterior of the cafe where my dog could rest and we could enjoy the blissful coffee. All was going well for 30 mins when our order arrived and we started eating. The owner courteously came and greeted us and left from the outlet. Suddenly a sweeper noticed our dog sleeping on the floor and started created a scene. This turned ugly when he started yelling at me while I was being very polite at the beginning. All the other staff where in support of me, but this guy kept screaming at the staff and us for getting a dog to the premise. He even went on to abuse me (owners could verify on cctv footage) which i didn't appreciate at all. I left the place leaving my food half eaten. While this guys was still screaming in the background, the manager asked me not to pay the bill due to all this. I dropped in the money as he wasn't agreeing to take the payment. Thus, a classic case of a bad employee tarnishing the image of a wonderful brand that these guys have built...
