Mantap ice creams are legendary in the Udupi-Kundapura area. As a child it was always a delight to stop here for ice-creams on long road trips to Udupi!

Having said that, the format of the place has changed quite a bit since then. They still serve ice-creams though nothing unique about them.

They have a pay and eat system for snacks and chaats. It’s hard to get a table in the evenings. Place feels a bit cramped. Hygiene also seems questionable, at first glance. Management is not up to the mark. Food, on the other hand is quite good. You won’t be disappointed.

However if you’re driving and looking for a nice place to just sit and eat and avoid the hassle of paying and picking up your dishes etc., I would recommended driving down a few minutes to Ganesh Grand.

This is one of the oldest drive thru restaurants on the highway. They also have their own ice cream factory which serves some real good ice cream. The favorites here are the Gadbad Ice Cream (A sundae served in a tall glass with layers of vanilla, pista, mango and strawberry flavored ice cream and jelly and nuts.) and the Banana Rasayna (Banana smoothie with nuts). Another best seller and personal favourite is the Mundakki Upkari (Puffed rice with Spice and salt masala garnished with chopped onion and Coriander). Mantap is a well known name in Kota Kundapur and Brahmavar area. Located right in the saligrama diversion on NH 66, it is a favourite hangout place with locals and old timers. I have seen many coming back to this place after years. We once had our friends get together here. They have spacious upper floor seating area preferred by elite guests. This is a go to place for traditional Mangalorean snacks , variety of juices , chats and ice creams. Service is quick and ambience is clean. However food quality is not consistent.
