My choice of stay at Hotel Green Palace in Mysore was an absolute disaster for me and my family at mid night.
The property is pretty from outside and the garden is beautiful. But the annex room felt like stepping into a haunted, neglected space, devoid of even the most basic necessities like drinking water. Don't be fooled by the term "pocket-friendly annex rooms" â these are clearly old servant quarters that have been left to decay. The beds were pathetic and draped in unbelievably old linen. The cupboards are not even covered. Bathrooms are also very basic and old. If not for the heritage tag, these rooms should be worth Rs.500 or less.
We had no drinking water, and with their "eco-friendly" excuse, the lack of a TV and AC could make the stay miserable.
The reception staff were sounding honest and utmost professional but turned out to be otherwise. The front desk is not responsive to messages sent through the booking app. They then tried to charge us with extra 2000 Rs per head making the total tarrif of these unbearable rooms Rs.6700(though the max allowed occupancy of the room I booked was 3). Therefore if the booking app shows cost in range of 2000s , please do not book as they will demand extra. To make matters worse, at 11 PM, they threatened to cancel our booking if we dont pay the additional amount, leaving us stranded late at night. This felt like pure extortion taking advantage of my late night situation while travelling with a woman and child. Then we left after cancelling the booking.
Even getting a refund after canceling was a struggle. They initially promised it within 24 hours, but I had to almost take legal action to finally get my money back. This entire experience was a complete let down.
You'd honestly be better off some where else as there are many excellant pocket friendly, neat and welcoming...

The cafe is tranquil and offers a good place to read a book or have a quiet chat. Rooms are clean. The mattress is firm and supportive, none of that caved-in, concave nonsense often found in hotels.
Cons: Most of the staff are atrociously bad. They have very little or no training in hospitality and certainly do not know how to interact with guests in a manner fitting for a hotel claiming to be a 2-star property. Had a late check-in at 11:30PM and the reception was closed, and there was nobody assigned to handle the check-in. I've seen better systems in place even at cheap lodges, so this is disappointing for a hotel of this size. Security guard claimed that it is illegal for residents of the city to stay at hotels in the city! Also, I had to wait at the gate until they raised the manager on the phone to finally assign me the room I had booked. Rooms have huge ventilator windows that are open to the outside, and so are extremely noisy, with traffic noise of trucks and buses from the main road disrupting your sleep throughout the night. The room decor leaves much to be desired, with mosaic flooring that looks cheap and a salt-stained steel bucket and mug in the bathroom reminiscent of Indian Railways' train lavatories. No room service, couldn't even get a bottle of drinking water in the room, and nor was one already provided in the room. Food is edible but otherwise lacklustre.
Summary: A beautiful property with great potential, but very...
