Himalaya Bake & More — Restaurant in Kerala

The only good thing that happened at this restaurant is that I didn't get food poisoning. Their bread and bake products are delicious but not outstanding - you can find just as good elsewhere in the many bake shops in and around Alleppy. The night I visited, the buffet was not very good. There was not a great selection of foods and the food I had was cold. The service was awful. My husband and I were staying at a gorgeous hotel that's quite remote - we asked whether they could help us arrange a taxi whereby all kinds of language issues ensued. At one point they thought we were asking for cocktails (obtaining a licence for alcohol is rare in Kerala, although most places serve under the counter). So this then caused a massive problem as the proprietor, I think because we are white, I am British and my husband Italian assumed we were then asking for him to help us obtain alcohol. It was really absurd, we were stranded and at that point the son and father who own the place were just refusing to try to negotiate our demonstrations of driving a car and saying 'hotel' 'hotel' 'taxi'. It was only when we went to pay and the son who began at that point to understand we were not asking for alcohol told the mother and the mother (thank goodness for mums) instructed the boy to help us out. Besides this long winded review, if you're travelling through Alleppy, don't bother going, there are much much better restaurants...

Entrance is always crowded. No place for parking because of the same. Previously there isnt any church nearby. But now there is a church which causes this rush, not because of the quality of the bake and more. The toilets are too much dirty even the wash basins. Its like public toilet. Staffs are polite. First floor is the restaurant. People litter all over the place gives a messy feeling. Overcharged meals are available here not related to quantity or quality. 120 for veg meals and 160 for fish meals. Plates are not clean at all. I dont know whether they are cleaning the plates well because of the rush. Veg and fish meal curries are very less compare to price. Not a single staff will ask for additional rice or curries. Staffs are not even bothered to serve properly. Waiting for some items will take life long. Rice not properly cooked. Once I often come to this place and enjoyed but now because of this mess, the whole experience vanished. Now the place feels like a religious area. Worst place for eat and bakery items. I had a very disappointing experience at Himalaya Bakery and Confectionaries in Kalavoor . The food quality was terrible the biryani was clearly old, tasteless, felt salty and just reheated in the oven. Even the pickle had a stale, unpleasant taste. The fried chicken piece served was cold, and the papadum was not at all hot or crispy, feeling like it was made long ago. The hygiene standards were also very poor. The washing area was badly maintained — the hand sanitizers were half-empty and not usable, with the pump and bottle kept separately. On top of that, the staff were very loud and unprofessional. They were sitting around, talking and laughing among themselves, without caring about the customers. The customer service was completely lacking.
