Today, I visited India Gate for the first time, hoping for a good meal, but I left feeling quite underwhelmed. Initially, I gave the restaurant two stars without leaving a review, but since they called me afterward asking for an explanation, I thought it would be fair to share my experience in detail. My intention here is not to be overly critical but to provide constructive feedback in the hope that it helps them improve.
Having dined at most of the high-end restaurants in Wayanad, I have a reasonable expectation of quality, both in food and ambiance, especially for the price. Unfortunately, India Gate didn’t feel worth the money. The food, which should be the highlight of any dining experience, had its ups and downs. The butter naan was a letdown. It was lifeless, dry, and had no visible butter. It felt more like a chapati than a naan. The gobi manchurian was bland, missing the burst of flavor that’s usually expected from the dish, and the mushroom manchurian was sparse on mushrooms, leaving it feeling incomplete. That said, not everything was disappointing - the tea and parotta were excellent and definitely the highlight of the meal.
Service was another area that could use improvement. While the staff seemed polite and hardworking, there were only two people attending to all the tables, which resulted in significant delays. It was clear that they were overwhelmed.
The ambiance added to the overall discomfort. The dining area was poorly ventilated, with the only airflow coming from the front door, and the tables and chairs were so closely packed that the entire experience felt cramped and claustrophobic. There were no napkins on the table. To top it off, the restroom facilities were in poor condition, with a broken latch on the toilet door and a cracked wash basin - small details that really stand out in a negative way when paying premium prices.
I hope this feedback helps the management address these issues and make improvements. There’s definitely potential here, but as it stands, the experience didn’t feel like it...

One of the attractions of India Gate restaurant in Wayanad is the couple who run it: Rasheed and Mumthaz. Rasheed is the chef, who learned his skills from his father, while Mumthaz takes care of the front desk and the orders. The dishes we tried were so delicious that we decided to return from Calicut just to relish them once more. The fact that we were willing to travel all the way back for dinner and even had breakfast the next day at India Gate speaks volumes about the quality of their food.
One standout item that I highly recommend trying is their Beehive Cake, also known as honey cake. This dessert was a revelation – a perfect balance of sweetness and texture that left my taste buds wanting more. It's a unique and delightful addition to their menu that you won't want to miss.
