As I entered Mitra Cafe, I was immediately transported back in time. The cafe has a charming old-world charm, with its vintage decor, wooden furniture, and nostalgic photographs adorning the walls. It exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
One of the highlights of Mitra Cafe is its menu, which offers a delightful array of snacks, meals, and beverages. From the famous chicken cutlet to the iconic fish fry, the cafe specializes in serving mouthwatering Bengali snacks that are sure to satisfy any craving. The food is prepared with precision and care, ensuring a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
I started my culinary journey with their signature chicken cutlet. The cutlet was crispy on the outside, with a flavorful and juicy chicken filling inside. It was served with a tangy kasundi sauce, which added a delightful kick to every bite. The quality and taste of the cutlet were exceptional, living up to its legendary status.
Next, I tried the fish fry, another beloved dish at Mitra Cafe. The fish was fresh and perfectly seasoned, coated in a crispy batter and fried to perfection. It had a delicate yet flavorful taste that showcased the expertise of the chefs. The fish fry was served with a side of kasundi and a slice of lime, elevating the overall experience.
Apart from snacks, Mitra Cafe also offers a range of hearty meals and beverages. Their Mutton Kosha and Chicken Biryani are highly recommended for those craving a filling and satisfying meal. The cafe also serves refreshing beverages like tea, coffee, and cold drinks, which complement the flavors of the food perfectly.
The service at Mitra Cafe is prompt and efficient. The staff members are friendly, attentive, and well-versed with the menu. They are happy to provide recommendations and cater to any special requests, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for all.
In terms of pricing, Mitra Cafe offers great value for the quality and quantity of food served. The prices are reasonable and affordable, considering the delicious flavors and the nostalgic ambiance provided.
Overall, my experience at Mitra Cafe in Dumdum was delightful. The mouthwatering snacks, nostalgic ambiance, and attentive service combined to create a memorable dining experience. Read moreOne of the legendary and Bengali's favorite cafe in Kolkata now opens a branch at Dum Dum. Although I'm little late visiting this branch, it opened few years back. Known for their fish items Mitra Cafe is a brand Bengali's trust on.
Ambiance : The restaurant is located on the 1st floor having roadside view from glass. Somehow maintained, plastic chairs, glass tables, warm white celling lights, overall the ambiance seems okey.
Service and Staffs : They've number of staffs and they're remarkably fast. They served our order on table within 10 minutes. So here's what we've ordered...
Fish Diamond Kabiraji @ Rs.140 (4/5) : Well this is the dish that made them famous and if you visit this place, having Fish Diamond Kabiraji is a must. Crispy fried thick layers of egg and the fish patty when dipped into their 100% pure sharp, hot and pungent Mustard Sauce, it tasted one of its kind. Fish patty was fresh and packed with lot of flavours.
Laccha Parotha @ Rs.40 (3/5) : This wasn't just simple Paratha, it was Tandoori Paratha. That means fluffy layers, baked in tandoor and absolutely non-oily. It is ideal with any kind of rich & thick gravy, just like I tried it with Mutton Afghani & it went super well. But I feel Rs.40 for a single Paratha is just too much.
Mutton Afghani @ Rs.120 (3/5) : I had lots of expectation from this dish but it kind of disappointed me. Although it's a starter item but this dish came with rich, thick gravy on top of a Mutton based patty. But unlike original Afghani the gravy wasn't white and creamy, rather it was just Mutton Kasha gravy cooked with more spices. Coming to the actual patty it seemed big, but Mutton portion was very less. Taste wise it was decent but nothing special.
Pricing : Some of their items are crazily priced, some are affordable. However our bill was affordable at Rs.315 including GST.
Conclusion : Well, this branch of Mitra Cafe at Dum Dum is way better than it's origin branch at Shobha Bazar in terms of ambiance & food quality. Now Mitra Cafe is serving Bengali Meals, Crabs, Squids, Seafood and even Chinese but their pure Fish items are what they really rock at. So if you love fish items then Mitra Cafe is definitely an option...

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at a restaurant that left me feeling utterly disappointed and dissatisfied. Not only was the food overpriced, but the quality and service were far below par. I feel compelled to share my review to warn others of this subpar establishment.
First and foremost, the price of the food was exorbitant for what was ultimately an underwhelming dining experience. I expected a certain level of quality, but what I received was far from it. The restaurant failed to justify the high price tag with its lackluster offerings.
One of the most disappointing aspects of my visit was the naan bread. It was served cold, which is completely unacceptable. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, I was met with indifference and a dismissive response. They insisted that the naan was hot and suitable for consumption, completely disregarding my valid complaint. This blatant disregard for customer satisfaction was deeply frustrating.
Furthermore, the customer service throughout my visit was subpar. The staff's dismissive attitude when addressing my concerns about the cold naan was indicative of their overall lack of professionalism. I felt unheard and disrespected as a paying customer, and it left a lasting negative impression.
Considering the exorbitant prices, the poor quality of the food, and the unhelpful staff, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this restaurant to anyone. It is evident that they prioritize profit over customer satisfaction, which is a clear indication of their lack of commitment to providing a positive dining experience.
In conclusion, my recent dining experience at this restaurant was a complete waste of money. The overpriced food, coupled with the cold and unsatisfactory naan, as well as the dismissive and unhelpful staff, made for an overall disappointing visit. I strongly advise potential customers to look elsewhere for a dining experience that values quality, customer satisfaction, and...
