It’s a long review.. It was raining and we thought of eating out. Our town got Original Muniyandi Vilas and few other good restaurants. We skipped all our usual places and decided to go this Thalappakatti located near Velaammal Hospital in Madurai. The parking was good and the ambience and interior was really good. The place was maintained very well and air conditioning was good. We ordered Chicken 65 Biriyani, Mutton Biriyani,Chicken Pallipalayam, Mutton Chukka,Chicken Lollipop,Butter chicken Masala,Nool Parotta and Kalaki. Everything came hot. Of the two Biriyanis Mutton tasted better than Chicken 65 Biriyani.Quantity was ok. Pallipalayam chicken lacked Redchillies and no coconut at all even though it was mentioned in the menu.Bit chicken was cooked very well. Chicken lollipop was very crispy and tastes good. Chukka was not up to the mark.. We can have better Mutton Chukka on any eatery in Madurai. Nool Parotta was good and soft. The biggest disappointment is Butter chicken.. It lacked that Butter chicken taste and had raw chopped pieces of onion and garlic and very few shredded pieces of Tandoori chicken. After our dinner we didn’t get the satisfaction and contentment. The taste wasn’t there. And we felt very thirsty after the meal for a long period of time. The service was good. But overall not a very...
Read moreAn incredible surprise! I have seen the brand across in Bengaluru and had noticed it on a temple visit to Madurai. At the tail-end of darshan completion, the following day before our departure meant I could try something new. Seeing the sign boasting a history from the 1950's and our driver giving us confidence in its flavor - I took the chance. Not to be disappointed with the flavor, the portion size to price ratio seemed a bit steep for a "healthy" eater. Particularly coming from Hyderabad where biryani is available at every corner and with quite a bit more quantity of rice to be consumed. I ordered their mutton biryani along with a seer fish grill. It was a lovely combination and what stands out from the Dindigul experience is its rice. Sourced from a particular region in Tamilnadu by the same name, the brand is now available in 6 countries with over a 100 outlets! There were a number of starters too I would have liked to try, but being alone meant I was restricted to the biryani and fish. Neither was to disappoint, though I would have liked just a "little bit more" as Oliver would say! Ambience wise, it is a clean, inviting place with plenty of parking located along the highway in Madurai as you head...
Read moreAn usual Dindigul Thalappakatti restaurant right next to Velammal hospital. Had gone with family for Lunch on a Friday afternoon. Not a very big outlet but it was free at the time(ard 12:30) i went. Was disappointing to know that many of the items in the menus were not available to order - Parotta, Chappaathi , even Vanjaram and Tawa fish fry - this could be because it was a Friday afternoon but the expectations for a Restaurant such as Dindigul Thalappakatti is to ensure that they have items that are put in menu available anyday. Didn't have so much varieties or food in general as visited it during a long journey. Had just chicken biryani, chicken fried rice, plain rice with rasam and curd, alfaham barbecue chicken, karandi egg, masala omlette, watermelon juice. Food was good and served hot. Food portion size seemed to be small but was good enough for me. Service was good. The people taking order, managing, servicing and parking care taker all were kind.
They have good parking space for cars and I believe they have a big parking space on the side which can even accomodate bigger vehicles - parking in general should not be a...
