The Banyan Restaurant — Restaurant in Madurai

The two days we stayed at this beautiful property, we got to sample their daily spread of fabulous buffet breakfast at The Banyan, that has both indoor & outdoor seating while the spread’s all inside. The food was no doubt fabulous but it was the service that amplified the whole experience. Day 1 we had the vegetarian selections from Southern & Northern India, be it the unique idlis, the poori subzi, the fresh hot ghee roasts from the live counter, everything was just perfect. With all those chutneys the dosa and idli was wonderful. Especially the Kara chutney that was spicy and tangy, just the right bit. The coconut chutney could have been a little more fresher, but overall thumbs up for Day 1 breakfast. Day 2 we had an early start so headed to check the selections which were similar but different variants were available to ensure that we get to try several options during our stay. The continental selections of grilled chicken wasn’t great, and the sausages were good, but we were delighted when one of the staff making and pouring coffee on the spot at the table offered my daughter, and gave few options like boost or bournvita. When my daughter politely refused, any, she said if she can get a hot chocolate, which was happily agreed by my daughter and we were happy that she got something that we least expected here. Went for lunch with friends. We went a bit early so we walked around the place and it was amazing. The huge banyan tree next to the restaurant is so huge and so imposing. The atmosphere is so mind soothing and doesn't feel like you are in Madurai. Their swimming pool is made so artistically. Everywhere around you will see antique articles infused with the hotel decor.

Restaurant interiors are nice. We were greeted well and shown our table. They.took our orders and then took almost 40 minutes to serve, had to remind the bearer and then they served. The fried rice.was.almost cold and requested to reheat to which they obliged immediately. Except for the delay and food not being hot, everything else was great. Taste was good and quantity was more than enough.
