Upper Deck by Sterling V Grand — Restaurant in Madurai

I came here from a google map search. I was a bit concerned that there were only 2 precious reviews of 5 stars each.

I was wanting a nonveg dinner with an adult beverage. When i walked in, the poace was completely empty, so I was a bit concerned. They wanted me to have the set menu, which looked very good, but it was far more food than I wanted. I’m very glad i didn’t go with the set menu, given my experience with service and food quality.

I asked for wifi access twice, but was told that was only available for hotel guests, but they would check on it. I never heard any results about their query. It is disappointing that restaurant guests, spending money would be denied simple wifi access.

I ordered the chili chicken and masala fries and the Elaneer Liit local cocktail with vodka, gin, white rum, tequila, Contreau, and coconut water. After waiting over 20 minutes for my cocktail, i was wishing I had gone for a beer.

My fries came after almost 20 minutes and I immediately asked for more ketchup. In the course of 10-15 minutes, i asked for additional ketchup twice. By the time additional ketchup came, the remainder of my fries were cold. The fries were nice when they were fresh.

The cocktail was nicely presented in a coconut, sitting on a glass of the coconut water and i presume cocktail that didn’t fit into the coconut after addition of the alcohol. The cocktail was refreshing, as fresh coconut water is, but there was VERY LITTLE actual alcohol. I can’t imagine that all the ingredients were present.

The chili chicken tasted okay, was warm on arrival, but did not taste as fresh as i would have expected.

I had to raise my voice progressively to get the waiter’s attention to ask for a beer and was surprised how loud I had to be to get his attention, as he was completely focused on his cell phone with his back to the tables.

We recently had a lovely candlelight dinner at sterling v grand, and it was truly a special experience. The service was exceptional, particularly thanks to Jayanthi, Prakash, and Anbu, who attended to our needs with warmth and professionalism.
