"Overhyped" is my review title because of the experience that we had tonight. First impression is whatttt?? 1/2 or 1 hour waiting?? Still we gave it a chance cuz last time we had good experience here. Waited for more than 40 mins and may be 2 or 3 families waited for so long and left the place so we got the table after 45 mins. Captain came and took our order warning that give all order at once as your order will come after 20 25 mins. We gave our entire order and frankly only "Chicken Lollypop" came within 10 mins but main course??? Main course came after 30 mins that too we had to remind all the captains, Waiters and everyone available there to get the food on table. Literally we lost our hopes and mood to eat in this overhyped restaurant. We had to call again and again and again to ask for spoon, Water and tissue papers. I understand that there's Shravan month starting from Monday so the restaurant had rush. But if the management knows that there's gonna be rush today then they would have simply increased the manpower?? Waiters seems to be frustrated or confused to serve so many people. But waiters were much better that captains. Captains were pathetic and was ignoring our requests like anything. Coming to the food, "Chicken Lollypop"Tasted good. Chicken Handi was extremely spicy and when we asked captain while ordering to make it less spicy the captain said the rassa has been prepared in the morning so we won't be able to make changes but it's gonna be less spicy only so we ordered it but that was the biggest mistake we did. I don't understand if the "Chicken Handi" has been prepared in the morning then what took so long to serve it to us.And it was too oily and spicy. Mutton thali didn't have anything else except 1 katori of Mutton Sukkha and 1 katori of Egg curry and Bhakari.. I mean come on?? No rassa no rice?? Nobody even cared to ask the rice order for that thali.. We wish we would have ordered something else than mutton thali. Actually we didn't even ask for rice cuz until the food came our mood got spoilt to eat there anymore. Alani Rice was okay but too salty. Decided not to order anything else and asked for finger bowl and for finger bowl we had to wait for another 20 mins which came extremely cold. I mean atlist give me one point to appreciate?? Yess it might be possible that they serve better food on less rush days but it's important to preserve the taste when people are gonna visit on special days like before Shravan or weekends?? Increase Manpower, Be ready for Rush, Be ready for orders 🙏 People trust the suggestions and videos and come to your place from so far. It was just a bad day to have dinner here tonight. I would request everyone to avoid visiting in rush hours to avoid such experience. The food might be good in other days so visit whenever possible on the weekdays to avoid ...
Read moreOverhyped and Underdelivered -------------- After watching a string of glowing reviews on YouTube (shoutout to Virtual Banjara blog) and reading through a barrage of Google ratings, I had high hopes for this restaurant. Spoiler alert: those hopes came crashing down faster than a soufflé in a thunderstorm.
I tried the Grilled Mutton Raan and Mutton Chap, which sounded promising but fell flat. Here’s the lowdown:
------(1) Grilled Mutton Raan (6/10): Unique? Yes. Memorable? Sadly, for the wrong reasons. The dish lacked the tenderness and softness that make mutton enjoyable. While the inner part was decently tender, the outer layer was hard, dry, and, frankly, too charred. Blackened edges might work for barbecue, but here it felt like the chef left the dish in the oven while answering a long phone call. -------(2) Mutton Chap (5.5/10): A slight improvement in flavour but still far from the mark. The dish lacked that melt-in-your-mouth quality, leaving me wondering if quality control took a holiday.
This restaurant is touted as one of the oldest and supposedly iconic spots, but its offerings don’t justify the hype. If the Grilled Mutton Raan is their USP, they might want to consider a rebrand.
Now, if you’re serious about mutton—the kind that makes you want to write a love letter to the chef—I strongly recommend making the pilgrimage to Arabian Darbar in Chembur/ Goregaon, Mumbai. Their Grilled Lebanese Mutton is in a league of its own: perfectly tender, bursting with flavour, and worth every bite. Final thoughts: For me, this visit was a classic case of social media hype over substance. Bloggers and vloggers, let’s start prioritizing good food over likes and subscriptions, shall we? Save your appetite—and your fuel—for a better culinary...
Read morePositive Points The hotel starts service exactly at 12:30 pm, as specified. Cleaning is done before customer arrival, which maintains hygiene. A waiting area is available for guests.
Areas for Improvement Parking is limited, and no staff is available to guide or help with arranging vehicles. Even though the service starts at 12:30 pm, the thali system was not ready. We were asked to wait 15 minutes before receiving our thalis. During this time, staff suggested buying additional items like masala papad, which felt like an unnecessary upsell. Gavakadachi Mutton Thali included Chap Masala, which was not cooked properly. While rassa is mentioned as unlimited, the first serving is mutton rassa, but when asked for more, a different rassa (possibly chicken or egg curry rassa) is provided. This inconsistency affects the dining experience. The serving spoon for rassa is too small. The server had to use it nearly 10 times just to fill one small bowl, which delays service. The overall taste was not very satisfying, especially when different rassa was served instead of the original mutton rassa. In a thali system with unlimited items (bhakri, chapati, rice, rassa), staff should proactively ask customers if they would like refills. Customers should not have to repeatedly request them. Feedback is not accepted or acknowledged by the management, which discourages customers from sharing genuine suggestions.
Final Thoughts Guests come to enjoy authentic taste and quick service, with the expectation of receiving exactly what was ordered. In my case, even after ordering a mutton thali, I was later served a different rassa, half cooked mutton chaps, which was disappointing. Based on this...
