I was lured by the alternative name, Konkan Masala, and the glib talk of the owner/manager. We ordered the fried Bombay Duck and the Kingfish (Surmai) curry. People identify Konkan as the land South of Mumbai right up to Karwar and beyond. When you talk of Konkan fish preparation served in the restaurants, it is generally from Ratnagiri and the land south of it. This restaurant serves food from near Panvel area, which is new. This requires the restaurant to provide tantalising taste for people to subscribe to it. The restaurant fails miserably. A person orders Bombay Duck for the taste of the fish. The fish was covered with so much rice flour that the taste of the fish was completely destroyed, and the preparation an utter failure. All the fish curries need to have a consistent fluidity and taste. The curry served was lumpy. The kokum, an ingredient, should be completely one with the gravy, it had not imparted the full flavour, in spite of copious use. The use of curry leaves was in excess and the taste was overpowering. Overall, the preparations failed to make any impact. If you visit, make sure you are prepared to make payment in cash, as they do not accept cash and the internet connection...
