I recently had the pleasure of eating at the quaint roadside eatery Mathew's Cafe, and I have to admit that their Onion Uttapam was really delicious. I had the best possible meal experience with this classic South Indian dish, which was something I never would have imagined. Mathew's Cafe's Onion Uttapam had the ideal harmony of tastes and textures. The uttapam's inherent softness and fluff caught my attention right away. It had the ideal amount of crispiness around the edges and was cooked to perfection. The slightly tart flavor of the batter went really well with the savory undertones of the onions. Speaking of onions, they added a delicious crunch and a burst of flavor to the uttapam when they were liberally and evenly sprinkled throughout. The sambar and coconut chutney that went with it were also really good. The thick and savory sambar enhanced the entire taste of the dish, and the creamy coconut chutney provided a pleasant hint of coconut sweetness. The cleanliness and hygienic conditions at Mathew's Cafe caught my attention. Though it was a roadside food shop, the personnel upheld impeccable hygiene standards, and the service was prompt and amiable. With a full stomach and a joyful heart, I departed from Mathew's Cafe. I would heartily recommend the Onion Uttapam to anyone looking for a taste of actual South India. It was a true culinary jewel. Without a doubt, Mathew's Cafe has earned a place on my list of favorite restaurants, and I'll be going back for this .

*Authentic South Indian Street Food, Old Timers, Best in Business* - Mathew's Cafe are a couple of food stalls on the main road along with some 5-5 similar food stalls located on the same pavement besides Tamil Sangam Society in Delhi's R.K. Puram. These are the old timers and best in business as fas authentic taste of South Indian dishes are concerned. Food lovers haven been regulars here from years on. One can get a quick bite and have it standing by some 7-8 tables in front and sides, or chose to carry packed food. It's a self service place, and the service is super quick and fast. They can't afford to be lax as the number of waiting customers is high at any point of time, especially do during meal hours. Coming to the dishes, all dishes like varities of dosa, uttapam, idli, vada, sambhar, and rice make you crave for more. One can refer to my pics for detailed menu items. Filter coffee needs special mention as it's a rarity. We ordered Parontha Kurma or Proto plate- three rice parathas with curried potato vegetable and coconut chutney. The rates are very reasonable. Go and try this one, if you are a foodie.

Thank you for the correction. Here’s the revised 200-word review:

⸻

Review of Matthew’s Café, Delhi

Matthew’s Café is a modest roadside eatery in Delhi, run by a Tamiliyan, offering authentic South Indian fare with a distinct Tamil touch. The food is flavourful and budget-friendly, with staples like idli, dosa, upma, and sambhar prepared in a traditional style that appeals to both locals and South Indian food enthusiasts. For those seeking a quick, filling meal at a low cost, this café is a dependable option.

However, there are notable concerns. The café operates from the footpath, raising legitimate questions about its legality and whether it holds the required permissions from municipal authorities. Hygiene is another pressing issue — the cooking and serving environment lacks basic cleanliness, which could pose health risks to consumers. Furthermore, the café’s location offers no proper parking, leading to regular traffic obstructions and difficulty for customers who arrive by vehicle.

Despite its shortcomings, Matthew’s Café remains popular due to its affordability and the authenticity of its Tamil food. It reflects the vibrancy of Delhi’s street food culture, but authorities must intervene to ensure hygiene standards are met and regulatory norms are followed. With better cleanliness and legal compliance, it could evolve into a respected spot for South Indian cuisine...
