Title: A Very Disappointing Experience at Theobroma NIBM – Not Worth the Hype
I recently had one of the most disappointing experiences at Theobroma Cake Shop, NIBM. Given the brand’s popularity, I expected decent quality and service, but unfortunately, what I encountered was the complete opposite.
I visited the store just yesterday to buy a mango cake for a small family occasion. The moment I walked in, I noticed a strong, unpleasant stale smell. For a bakery, this was an immediate red flag. Instead of the fresh, sweet scent of cakes and pastries, the shop smelled old and musty — extremely uninviting and honestly made me question their hygiene standards.
Despite this, I decided to go ahead with the purchase. The staff were unhelpful, rude, and disinterested in attending to customers. There was no smile, no effort to explain or recommend anything, just a very careless attitude. It felt like I was bothering them by simply asking questions about the cakes.
I bought the mango cake hoping at least the taste would justify the trip. Unfortunately, it did not. The cake looked okay on the outside but tasted terrible. It was dry, flavorless, and clearly not fresh. It honestly felt like it had been sitting in the fridge for days. The mango flavor was artificial and overpowering in a bad way.
Even worse, no one in my family could eat it. After a couple of bites, everyone pushed their plates away. We ended up throwing the whole cake in the bin. It felt like a complete waste of money — almost as if they robbed us by selling something inedible.
This was not just a bad cake — it was a bad experience from start to finish. From the moment we entered the store to the moment we discarded the cake, it was disappointment after disappointment. I honestly can’t understand how Theobroma allows this level of poor service and product quality under their name.
If this had been a small, unknown bakery, maybe I wouldn’t be so surprised. But Theobroma is a well-known brand, and with that comes responsibility. What I encountered at the NIBM branch was far below even basic standards: bad smell, unhygienic environment, rude staff, and a cake no one could eat. What more could go wrong?
I sincerely hope the company takes notice and improves this outlet. There needs to be accountability — customers should never have to spend money on spoiled or stale products, especially at premium prices.
If you’re considering buying a cake from Theobroma NIBM, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere. There are plenty of better bakeries with fresher cakes and better service. This experience was not only disappointing but completely unacceptable for a brand with such...
Read moreI've had a bad experience ordering from the Theobroma outlet at both the Camp and Salunkhe Vihar outlets. But the Salunkhe Vihar outlet has rude and arrogant staff who are least bothered about the customer. I had ordered a cake today and chosen the delivery slot. When the cake did not arrive even after the time chosen had elapsed, I tried calling them several times but to no avail. The order page showed no updates, there was zero communication from their end. I had to personally go to find out. I waited patiently for at least 1 out of the 5 staff to attend to me, but they studiously ignored me. I wanted to see how long they would make me wait before they attended to me. After about 7-8 mins one from the staff deigned to ask me what I wanted. When I explained my issue, they seemed lest bothered with one staff telling me that they had no rider. When I asked them why was there no communication from their end, why no one was answering the phone and what was the use of booking a time slot, they just kept quiet. They eventually put the cake I had ordered in a bag and handed it over to me, spoiling my entire experience, with their apathetic behaviour. The top management needs to take serious note of this irresponsible behaviour of the staff and get some accountability. This is the 3rd time it's happening and I for one am never ordering from Theobroma again, also because there's a sharp decline in the quality and taste of their products. The cakes are either too sweet or too bland and the flavours seem just essences and not authentic ingredients used. It's sad really, as I have some of my best memories with the Theobroma of the past, which served delicious treats with a smile. Another one bites the dust, because of 85 plus outlets.. growing in quantity at the...
Read moreWorst customer service I've seen in this day & age! I went into the outlet this afternoon to buy a mixed seed bread & sour dough loaf. Firstly there were 2 people behind the counter but none of them helped. I presumed that it was self service so picked up the loaves and placed them on the cash counter. Though I wonder if they would be okay if I self served myself to the pasteries behind the counter? The lady (Sujata if I am not mistaken) at the cash register was on the phone so I waited while another customer was also waiting. After a period of time I asked her how much I need to pay and had my phone out with their QR code scanned in. She literally barked at me saying wait a minute. A little embarrassed I stayed put. Another 5 minutes or so her phone conversation kept on until I had to interrupt & say that my car could be blocking traffic so if she could hurry up. She looked at me & just ignored my comment as if I didnt exist while she continued on the phone. The other customer in the shop just didnt pick up the courage to say anything while he waited for her to finish probably because he saw her behaviour with me. Mind you I had spent over 2k at the same outlet just a couple of days prior to my this visit to them. Finally I got tired of waiting & just left the goods on the counter and exited the shop. I guess this is what happens when you become a big name with a chain of outlets. You begin to believe that the customer needs you more than you need them. Their stuff might be good but their customer experience really SUCKS!! I for one am never going back...
