It's rare to see a restaurant on the highway getting consistently high reviews and have been wanting to try here for a long time. Finally I created a chance to visit this restaurant while we were on our way from Chennai to Salem. Although the Route via Vilupuram, Ulundurpet is the shortest one and saves time about 45 minutes, I convinced my family to take the Vellore, Krishnagiri route just to have our dinner here in Alankar. To my horror, there was a huge traffic in this route and my family was growing impatient. A lot of things were at stake for me given the change in route and traffic and all I was hoping for was a half-decent dinner to escape the wrath of my family members. But, we were treated to some wonderful food coupled with excellent service that calmed everyone's senses and made the dinner a memorable one.
The place was packed at 7:30 PM, which is quite early for dinner. It was giving the vibes of a fine dine restaurant and not just a highway eatery. There were some interesting items on the menu which you wouldnt normally find elsewhere. Few items were not available. We settled with Thattuvadai Set, Paal kozhukattai, Raagi Puttu, Karuvepilai Dosai, Paper roast, Garlic Naan, Phulka & Mattar Panner. The Puttu was so tasty that we got 2 more orders of it. Coming from Salem, I can certify that the Thattuvadai set was legit. Garlic Naan was Yum. Paal kozhukattai was a perfect dessert. Not overly sweet and had chunks of Coconut. The panner was so fresh and soft. We were amazed by how quickly they brought in the orders. It was super fast. Their special groundnut chutney was out of the world. The Filter Kaapi was freshly brewed and strong and was served hot in a brass Davara set. Tea was good too as per those who had it.
The service was top notch. There cannot be a better service than this. The waiters are very courteous and there are multiple people attending your table, so you get everything very quickly. The pricing is also very reasonable and there is no compromise in quality or quantity of the food. It has also got clean restrooms and parking is managed on the service road. Highly recommended. Look nowhere beyond this place when you are travelling...

Read moreOne of the best breakfasts I've ever had. The first thing you notice is the simple and beautiful traditional architecture of the restaurant. The ambience even in the common areas is great with plenty of greenery and beautifully done decoration. The large windows of the restaurant gives it a very open and spacious feel and also provides good natural lighting. The seating is pretty simple and comfortable.
The service was quick and the servers were polite and prompt. The hygiene in the kitchen is impeccable and the food seems to be of very high quality. No item is too spocy or oily. Everything is well balanced amd fresh. Special mention to the variety of chutneys you get here, unlike in Bangalore where one bland coconut mint chutney is all you get. Sambar was amazing. We had samabar idli and the mini idlies were simply melting away in the mouth.
Would've been great if they had a few more itms to choose from like Appam, fresh fruit juice etc. But, can't complain about what they do have on three menu. Would definitely recommend this place if you're on the Chennai Bangalore highway. I hope they keep up the great work and maintain...
