This place truly deserves some praise. Maiyam is one of the few restaurants in Auroville, even in the region, to serve completely organic, Ayurvedically prepared, local food - beautifully weaved together with a contemporary style from the owner Vijhay.
I've found this to be the best place I've eaten in India so far- simply because each time I leave, I feel so refreshed, yet still deeply satiated.
They also sell organic wholegrains and pulses; have a lofty collection of books which one is free to browse through, and some amazing coconut milkshakes; including strange but delectable flavours of Curry Leaf and Ash Gourd. Plus you always get a dessert with lunch included!
Reasonably priced, slightly above local rates (as they should be considering everything is organic, which is rare in India) but still cheap compared to other Auroville...

Please don't go to this place if you have taste for spicy North Indian or South Indian food and havenot or wouldn't want to try healthy, sattvik food. Only people who likes and have taste for sattvik food will appreciate this place. I loved the food. I remove one star for resturant is not capable of handling too many people. Kiran, the owner, helped both of us. The other person was nursed some by the staff and then left.
After I went to the health center and returned, Kiran helped me with my bike, got me some food, and was incredibly supportive.
Of course, I love the food for how fresh and healthy it is, and so the staff provided me with an evening meal given in a tiffin. I can recover in peace without having to cook tonight.
