Finding good food in a small town like Valparai can be a challenge. Sabari Mess offers a solid dining experience. There are actually two locations: a standard restaurant and a more casual, home-style setup a short distance away (apparently run by brothers).

During our visit in December 2024, we enjoyed both breakfast and lunch at the home-style Sabari Mess, finding the food to be tasty and reminiscent of home cooking. We also had dinner at the restaurant location, which was equally satisfying.

One tip for diners: it's best to confirm the availability of specific dishes before ordering. We encountered a situation where we were initially told Idli was unavailable, only to be told it was available after we considered leaving (perhaps due to profit margins). We went for lunch to this place last month after reading the reviews (4.6 rating). It was a small home, nothing fancy and not easy to be found. They had only two options Sambar or curd rice. We ordered both and found to our disappointment that both of them were watery and in running consistency, more of a porridge than rice. There was not a single vegetable in the sambar rice. We were served with limited papad and pickle. At the end we were charged Rs.70 for sambar rice and the same price separately for curd rice. I was confused, coz, the price was definitely higher than price charged in standard vegetarian restaurants like Annapoorna or A2B and was no where close to the taste they provide. I felt cheated by the google reviews for the first time. I will never go back to this...

Best homely mess at Valparai town . Many family tourist visiting this place traveling from so far distance just to have food and enjoying the climate. They have limited no of menu available 3 time per day. The way of serving and hospitality shown by the family was very gud. The food are authentic home made food all the taste buds at correct level. Even small children like to have lunch in this mess. It has been heavily crowded during weekend and orders got delayed due to parcel deliveries .
