Honest Review – Disappointing Experience

After seeing numerous positive Google reviews and Instagram reels about this restaurant, we decided to visit for lunch today with high expectations. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory.

Service & Ambience:

The service was extremely slow, making the overall dining experience frustrating. The staff took a long time to bring our order. To add to the disappointment, the food was served cold, which completely ruined the taste and experience.

Food Quality & Taste:

Being from Sindhudurg district, we are well aware of authentic Malvani flavors, and unfortunately, this restaurant did not come close to delivering them. Here’s a breakdown of what we ordered: • Chicken Soup – It was nothing more than hot water with chili flakes. No flavor, no depth, just a bland watery broth. • Crab Soup – This was slightly better • Kolambi Tikhla (Prawns Curry) – This dish was simply prawns cooked in coconut, lacking the rich, bold Malvani flavours. It had no proper seasoning or spice balance. • Chicken Masala Fry – Surprisingly, this dish was sweet, which is not how it should be at all. Malvani chicken is known for its spicy and robust flavors, but this version was a complete letdown. • Bombil Fry (Bombay Duck Fry) – Not at all crispy, which is one of the key elements of a good bombil fry. It felt soggy and unappetizing. • Teesrya Masala (Clams Masala) – The only dish that was somewhat decent and tasted close to authentic. • Amboli – This was shockingly thick, almost resembling a bhakri rather than the soft, spongy texture an amboli should have. • Sol Kadi – A huge disappointment. Sol kadi should have a refreshing kokum flavor, but this one tasted like plain buttermilk (chaas) with no kokum at all.

Final Verdict:

We had high hopes for this place, but it failed to deliver in terms of both service and food quality. The overwhelming positive reviews on Google and Instagram seem misleading because our experience was nothing like what was showcased. If you’re looking for authentic Malvani cuisine, this is not the place to go.

Sindhudurga Kinara Restaurant is a great place to enjoy authentic seafood in Thane. However, one major issue is its location on Google Maps, which appears to be incorrect or not updated by the owner. The actual restaurant is located at Service Rd, Dandekar Colony, Panch Pakhdi, Thane West, Maharashtra 400602. Visitors should be mindful of this to avoid any confusion.

I visited last Sunday around 1 PM, and the restaurant was quite crowded, with a waiting time of at least 30 minutes. While valet parking is available. The reception staff is excellent, handling the crowd efficiently and ensuring a smooth process for everyone waiting.

The restaurant's interior is beautifully designed, giving the feel of a traditional village house. The ambiance is warm, cozy, and adds to the overall dining experience.

Coming to the most important part—the food. We tried the Surmai Thali and Rawas Thali, and both were absolutely delicious. The quality of the seafood was fresh, and the flavors were rich and authentic. Every dish was well-prepared, making it a satisfying meal.

Overall, Sindhudurga Kinara is a great place to enjoy seafood in Thane. Despite the minor inconvenience of the location issue and the waiting time, the food, service, and ambiance make it worth visiting. Highly recommended for...

Very very POOR service in Sindhudurg..

1st time (Jan 2022): Excellent food for all taste birds. Not only quantity but quality of food was also great. I will definitely visit again with family.

2nd time (12th June 2022): Visited again ! Pathetic experience, we have firstly been asked to wait for 45 mins after saying it's just 5 mins of wait.

We ordered Paya soup, paya was all Raw not properly cooked, was unable to chew it at all. Also to our surprise my wife just got one piece of Paya and other piece was just a bone, wen we asked this to manager he just argued saying it's perfectly cooked and nothing can be done. After a long argument he bought one small piece of mutton instead of Paya saying this is all they have. imagine we paid for paya but got Raw paya and not even a paya pieces properly.

Next we ordered Bangda- Taste was average not as expected or as per Sindhudurg standards. Also fish was not fresh.

Staffs, especially one waiter who is dark is very very rude so plan our dinner accordingly. I personally witnessed many ppl wer shouting and disappointed with poor service they received.

Prices are on higher end but services and some food is not...
