The food we ordered was specifically requested to be Non Spicy. However except the Dal Makhani which was Black in color for some reason (Old dal being reheated and served) everything was so spicy that we had to return every dish twice.

1. Dal Makhani - Okay taste but definitely old. Due to reasons of poor quality dishes mentioned below we had to only eat 1 portion of Dal Makhani between 4 adults and 1 child

2. Paneer Lababdar - We asked and waited confirmed it will sweet in taste due to the gravy, however it was extremely spicy. When we asked the waiter again why is this spicy, he said this is how it is and ignored us for the rest of the evening. The Manager had to be called in who replaced it with even spicier version.

3. Matar Mushroom - Same old appearance as the dal makhani and excessively spicy. It appears to me that the chef ran out of fresh masala and spices as well as fresh ideas of how to make a dish customised to the order preference.

4. Malai Kofta - The menu shows a picture of malai kofta in red gravy. We checked with the waiter whether the dish is spicy or mild and he said no it’s sweet as well. When we received our order it was white in color - only kaju cream and nothing else. We questioned the manager this time and he said we only have 1 red gravy in which we can prepare the dish.

This is horrifying as the dishes we ordered were all supposed to have different tastes but are being prepared in the same gravy. The dal makhani as mentioned was very old and re heated but we were left with no other choice as it was already 8 pm and we were running out of choices.

The ignorance of the waiter was epic and he should be awarded for his level of ignorance I have not seen in any restaurant before.

It's one of the oldest, renowned & best restaurant in Gorakhpur. We use to visit it quite often like thrice a month. It has maintained its reputation with time. But, with power comes responsibility where it lacks. In recent years, I have observed that it is no more clean and hygienic as it used to be. Anyways, keeping this aside, you'll still relish the delicious meals served here. It has it's own small bakery just at the entrance of hotel where you get the best Pastry in town at a reasonable price.
