Read moreRecently I went out for vacay in a very remote area in Nainital district known as naukuchiatal . Naukuchiatal is a nine cornered lake in Nainital district of Uttrakhand . Lake was surrounded with pretty Lil cafes with all European set up . They were really nice and cozy . I was in search of a restaurant who serves Kumaoni cuisine as it is a speciality of that Kumaoni region . I found a restaurant named Aipan situated just near the naukuchiatal lake . Aipan restaurant serves some of the amazing Kumaoni delicacies which I never heard of and was really excited to try them all 😍. I ordered Alloo ka gutka , ragi roti , bhang kii chutney , Kumaoni raita , Kumaoni dal and paneer butter masala 😍 I loved their Alloo ka gutka and ragi ki roti 😍 that combination just stole my heart ❤️ . Alloo ka gutka had potatoes sauteed with masala and a special Kumaoni spice ( jhakiya ) which gave it a hint of nuttiness , a touch of mustard like flavour and hing ka tadka 😍. I loved their Kumaoni raita too which had an amazing flavour of mustard which was perfectly...
Read moreWe chanced upon this small restaurant run by young enthusiastic entrepreneur,Gaurav Pant,in our search for local cooked cuisine . A unique exposure to the local food of Kumaon region..very fresh ingredients with simple preparations that preserves the natural flavours, liked the food so much that we returned the next day to ask for different dishes..the aloo dish was spiced with unique masala and the dal was having a smoked flavour, the ragi rotis sure were different from the bhakri or rotis of Maharashtra or Karnataka. The Palak kappa was a bit bland to my taste ,the badi saag reminded me of a similar Saraswat preparation.and bhang chatney had a distinctive zing to it,but the treasure in the box arevtwo dishes that are so unique Kumaoni raita and the Nimbu Saan, both were unlike any Dish I have had..superlative job Gaurav and team,we need more young people proud of our culture to preserve it through...
