The word delicacy was probably invented for the food of Lucknow. Awadhi cuisine is known for its delicate flavours, mild aromas and nafasat (refinement). And all these nuances apply to its famous biryani, or rather pulao—yes, after umpteen debates on the difference between the two, we now know that Lakhnawi biryani is actually pulao. But, what’s in the name after all. Awadhi biryani is mild when compared to the biryanis from other regions. It has no extra masala, each grain of rice is flavourful, and is usually eaten on its own without salan or raita.

Idrees Biryani, Chowk “For me, Idrees Biryani would be it. I am personally biased towards Abu Bakr the third-generation owner of the shop. The gentleman's commitment towards quality makes his biryani one of the most consistent ones in Lucknow.”—Ranveer Brar, celebrity chef, television host, and author Opposite Pata Nala, Pata Nala, Raja Bazar, Police Chowki, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh 226003
Naushijaan, Lalbagh
“Even though the first thing people might tell you when you visit Lucknow is to check out Idrees Biryani, if you ask me I would send you to Naushijaan in Lalbagh. The biryani you will have here will undoubtedly make you miss Lucknow for days. Tender meat with well-balanced flavours and aromas along with long grain rice will feel delicate on your palate and yet firm to hold. They also have Hyderabadi and Bukhari biryani, but when in Lucknow try the delicious Lucknowi biryani (or pulao; whatever you want to call it).”—Sadaf Hussain, chef and author Tulsi Theatre Complex, Lalbagh,...

The star of the show at Madhyamgram Lucknow Biryani is undoubtedly their biryani. The rice is perfectly cooked, fluffy, and fragrant, infused with a medley of spices that tantalize your senses with each bite. The biryani is available in various options, including chicken, mutton, and vegetable, catering to different preferences. The meat in the biryani is tender and succulent, with each piece packed with flavor. The balance of spices is just right, neither overpowering nor lacking, making it an absolute delight for the palate.
Apart from the biryani, the restaurant offers a decent range of other Awadhi delicacies. The kebabs are a standout, with their smoky charred exterior and juicy, well-marinated interiors. The Galouti Kebabs, in particular, are a must-try. They are melt-in-your-mouth tender and bursting with aromatic spices.
The ambiance of Madhyamgram Lucknow Biryani is simple and cozy, providing a comfortable setting for a relaxed meal. The service is prompt and attentive, with the staff being knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations.
While the flavors and quality of the food at Madhyamgram Lucknow Biryani are commendable, there is room for improvement in terms of portion sizes. The serving portions, especially for the biryani, could be more generous, considering the expectations of a satisfying biryani experience.
In terms of value for money, Madhyamgram Lucknow Biryani offers reasonable prices for its offerings. The quality of ingredients and the authenticity of flavors make it a worthy dining experience.

Read more🤮 When it comes to Lucknow Biryani 🤢, I am at a loss for words. I wish there was an option to give this restaurant less than one star because that's exactly what it deserves. I decided to try their mutton biryani, but what I received was nothing short of a disaster. The mutton they proudly labeled as "RIYAZI" was a complete disappointment. It was as tough and chewy as a rubber tire, making it impossible to consume, even with the aid of heavy machinery. I bet you won't be able to separate it from the bone, no matter how hard you try. Don't waste your time or money on this The taste, or lack thereof, left me utterly disappointed and regretful for ever stepping foot into this...
