Visited: Rupasi Restaurant, Serampore
We ordered the following dishes:
Fish Orly
Chicken Tangdi Kebab
Chicken Keema Biryani
Fish Tikka Masala
Tandoori Roti
Fish Orly – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely the best dish of the day. Made with pure vetki fish, crispy outside and soft inside. Comes with 6 pieces. A must-try if you visit this restaurant.
Chicken Tangdi Kebab – ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Taste-wise it was good, but the portion size felt small for the ₹320 price tag. I’ve had larger tangdis elsewhere at better value. Also, we tried ordering Chicken Banzara Kebab, but they refused to serve it, which was disappointing.
Chicken Keema Biryani – ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ A different take from typical Kolkata or Barrackpore biryani. Light and flavorful with 10–12 chicken keema chunks, an egg, and a piece of aloo (potato). Worth trying if you're open to something new.
Fish Tikka Masala – ⭐☆☆☆☆ This was a letdown. It wasn’t vetki as claimed and had bones, which is unexpected in a tikka masala dish. Would not recommend.
Tandoori Roti – ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ Decent, fresh, and served hot. Nothing extraordinary, but it did the job.
Overall: The experience was average. I might visit again for the Fish Orly and possibly try some Chinese dishes next time. Service was okay, but the refusal to serve a listed item and the misleading fish dish were negatives.

Read moreOne of the standout items people mention most is the Banjara Kebab — juicy, well-marinated, not overcooked, and often described as soft and flavourful. It strikes a nice balance between smokiness and spice.
The Mutton Keema Biryani also earns praise; its meat usually tender, the rice well-spiced, though some say the meat portion could be higher.
Vegetarians seem to have good choices as well. The veg thali gets called a “steal deal” by several reviews — simple, homely, satisfying. The vegetable and paneer dishes, the Chinese-veg combos (Manchurian, Chilli Paneer, etc.) get repeated mention for being decent and flavourful.
On the flip side, there are a few common drawbacks. Sometimes the portion of rice feels small compared to what you pay for. Some customers felt that certain meat pieces (especially chicken) are smaller than expected or less juicy. A few reviews mention inconsistency — on good days, everything shines; on others, minor misses (less seasoning, uneven cooking) creep in. Service speed also pops up: some say waiting is longer than ideal.
Desserts don’t figure much in reviews — they exist, but aren’t often highlighted. Presentation: food looks appealing in many photos, albeit casual, not fancy. Hygiene gets acceptable marks in most reviews, with occasional comments about...
Read moreThe restaurant is good and a wonderful selection of cuisine too!! The guest house however, is GOOD for a SHORT stay (1-2 days) ONLY, CANNOT BANK for a longer stay as WI-FI NOT AVAILABLE for work purpose. Please see to this.🙏 Also, the daily change of ACCESSORIES like towel, soap, etc. is not upto the mark. With the way tourism and awareness about Serampore's history is taking over on YouTube, I'm sure lots more tourists will be looking forward to visit this place and stay in your guest house. Please do look into these points🙏🙏 To add to this, the management does not have the minimum level of customer service as minimum as a cup of black tea at 7 am requested for one day only, in spite of repeatitive reminders.... So be careful before considering a long stay here..
Unfortunately I need to change the points to 3...
