TheSawah is not only a wonderful place to have dinner, it is a unique Airbnb as well.||Our arrival day happened to be my birthday and our hosts Wim and Phillip surprised us with a copious and delicious Indonesian rijsttafel that was rounded off with a delicious birthday cake, a very nice touch.||I live in Amsterdam where there is plenty of places to have a decent rijsttafel, but this one was special. Like eating at your friend’€™s place.||The ambiance is wonderful. TheSawah has a wonderfully and tastefully decorated dinner room, but we opted for an al fresco dinner next to the beautiful pond. ||We have stayed with Wim and Phillip for a week and our time in the Yogyakarta area couldn't have been better. ||Their guest room, equipped with a comfy queen size bed and a private semi open air bathroom is not big but more than adequate, and since you can call the rest of their beautiful place your home it is actually huge.||The accommodation comes with a wonderful Indonesian style breakfast, which can be substituted by a western one upon request. ||Wim is a terrific and enthusiastic tour guide who can tell you tons of stories about the region and its history.||We did 2 tours with him and saw lots of exciting places, many of them hidden gems away from the typical tourist spots.||Our driver on all tours was Wim’s recommended Sutarman, a very pleasant and friendly driver who got us to all the spots safely and comfortably.||This was my first and certainly not last visit to Indonesia.||Thanks to Wim, Phillip and their wonderful TheSawah with their friendly and helpful staff it has become a truly memorable one!||Needless to say I can highly recommend theSawah, both for dinner and accommodation! Read moreMy husband and I decided to spend five full nights at the Sawah after seeing the gorgeous photos on the Air BnB website and reading all the rave reviews. We couldn’t have been happier with the decision. The villa itself is absolutely gorgeous. The open-air terraces, fish pond, and Indonesian décor totally transport you into an authentic experience for your trip. The room is small but it has a large bed and great air con. ||||Breakfast—a choice between Western and Asian each morning—was absolutely delicious and an amazing value. And the option to have dinner at the Sawah rather than going into town (which we chose to do twice) was incredibly convenient and delicious. The rice dinner deserves all the acclaim it gets on TripAdvisor, and even the simple dinner they prepared for us on our arrival night was absolutely fantastic. ||||And even with a gorgeous setting and delicious food, the best part of the Sawah is its hosts. Wim is a natural born host to say the least. He treated us to wonderful stories about Jogja’s history while we had downtime, provided maps, brochures, and recommended walking guides to help us make the most of our time in the city, and even volunteered to show us around some local villages that he knows well. Phillip is an incredibly talented designer and chef and wonderful to talk to about his experience growing up in Indonesia. We now consider them friends and can’t wait to return to Yogyakarta in the future and stay at the Sawah again. It truly goes above and beyond your typical...
