On my last trip to the high country side of Central Java, I discovered a true precious hidden gem which I would like to share with the reader of this review. I feel compelled to write this review, as busy as I am at the moment, because to fail to do so would be an act of selfishness and sloth on my part to those excellent wait staff who tended to us, so friendly and professional, who declined monetary tips but instead asked me to leave a good review.
A true gem like this must be highlighted and promoted. I could've left a generic review here but that will be an injustice to that awe inspiring place, not to mention the cuisine. Because as fantastic as the decor, ambiance and settings of the CafΓ© are, the food is equally magical at CafΓ© Medjora. Which is truly a rare combination in my experience. Oh, and the prices you might wonder? So affordable, I would even say inexpensive. There were seven of us at dinner, each of us had ordered drinks (non alcoholic) and entrΓ©s or appetizers. When I went to pay the bill, the whole total only amounted to Rp. 172,000! (roughly $11.79 USD)
A trip to the country side is always a treat on its own for a city dweller like me who's really a country girl at heart. Just to get away from the noisy, polluted and chaotic metropolis. But it's always been the change of scenery that excited me. I remember sitting as a child in the back seat of the car, looking at pastoral scenes flying past the window leaving the chaotic city scene behind. Terraced rice paddies with farmers planting new crops, water buffaloes pulling the plow with farmboys on their back conducting them. Breathtaking lush vegetations everywhere with grey, mystical majestic volcanoes in the background. Fruit stands brimming with local produce along the side of the road. Far off clusters of sleepy little farming villages, rivers and streams that wind through the land. These beautiful sceneries have been obscured from travellers these days if you travel by the old thoroughfares because of the continuous rows of buildings lining up the highways so you can't see sceneries. The relatively recent appearance of toll roads make it possible for road travellers to enjoy the beautiful pastoral sceneries of Central Java out of the car window again. Though I personally think that toll roads are fascistic, but I digress, this is not a political commentary afterall. Lol.
I was invited by my brother to watch his son paraglide in Kemuning, Karanganyar Regency in Central Java. He's barely 17 and already flying like a pro. He aspires to be a flying instructor in my brother's International Paragliding School. By the by, If anyone is interested in learning to paraglide, please don't hesitate and feel free to contact me via email or WA. I can hook you up with the best instructors. My brother is one of the pioneers of the sport in Indonesia. His trophies and medals from championships he's won are too numerous to display, he just threw them in old bisquit tins. Lol
On the way there my brother kept telling us to meet him at CafΓ© Medjora. (That's how I discovered this amazing place.) But I kept wondering in the back of my mind, why? I told him....(continued on screen caps of the essay review marked 1,2,3 on the photos attached)
