I am a delightful repeating customer at this vegan restaurant that offers both excellent taste and affordable prices. While it's situated a bit far from the city center, it's conveniently located near culinary hubs and close to several campuses. They even have a branch at Atmajaya Yogyakarta University's canteen, offering a menu filled with rice and a wide variety of side dishes.
What sets this place apart is its predominantly Asian menu, thoughtfully prepared without any allium relatives like shallots or garlic. Surprisingly, the dishes remain incredibly delicious and are a hit even with non-vegan diners. My personal favorites include the Nasi Padang and Nasi Jamur Geprek, which are their signature dishes available on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
The restaurant itself is a cozy two-story space with a charming bamboo-based structure. The lighting is warm and inviting, with a bright yellow ambiance at night. What's impressive is the continuous effort by the owners to enhance the place over time.
While the staff is friendly, it's worth noting that most of them primarily speak Javanese and Indonesian. It would be beneficial for them to learn some basic English to provide better service to non-local visitors. Overall, it's a fantastic spot for vegan dining, combining delicious food with a...
Read moreThe recon on Veganisaimo was far from a success. The mission started with a long drive to a location that left even the driver raising an eyebrowâa place with an old-school, sleepy vibe that didnât exactly scream âdestination.â My objective was the elusive Nasir Pandang, but it was nowhere to be found, and no alternative was offered on the menu.
I improvised with the Tempe Mendoan, which turned out to be a redeeming asset: lightly salted, deep-fried to a crisp, and paired with a decent sauceâthough a homemade twist would have elevated it further. The menu seems to lean heavily on vegan mock meats, leaving fresh veggie dishes in the shadows. In short, the star ingredient never made its appearance, and the overall operation was left incomplete.

Read moreLocated in the middle of the Culinary Village, it is a little out of the way if you are staying in Jogja, but omg is it worth it. The place is very popular with students and locals, and definitely a must visit for any tourist who is vegan (or would like to try Indonesian food, but vegan!). The menu provides simple local fares from both Indonesian and Chinese recipes, but EVERYTHING is vegan. A definite MUST try is the KFC style fried mushroom (fried oyster mushroom). Tastes exactly like the finger lickin' good original. Prices can't be beat either, exceedingly reasonable prices. Things to note: 1. It is a local favourite, so when things are spicy, they are Indonesian-level spicy. 2. If taking personal transport, you will have to pay for parking. 3. The toilet is the owners personal toilet. Inside their house. You will have to remove your shoes...
