Traveled far enough from Bekasi to Tanah Abang just to visit Ginger’s Diner but it wasn’t that much of a problem because the location is just a minute away from KRL station! Came here on a weekday evening and it was pretty packed but I got seated right away. Despite the café being relatively small, it’s very comfortable and cozy. The room is nicely adorned with lovely and quirky decorations too.
When I was about to place my orders, the waitress was very polite and informative, so it’s okay if you don’t have anything in mind to order when you come here yet—they will definitely help you with their suggestions!
I ordered Strawberry Cream Matcha, Dark Chocolate Banana Pudding, and Salt Bread because I had been craving them. Here’s what I thought:
The strawberry cream matcha is so lovely. I’m no expert when it comes to matcha, but I really love how it tasted. There is still a hint of bitterness, but here’s when the strawberry cream’s sweetness came to play. I like it a lot!
Salt bread was exactly like how I imagined it to taste like. I have been watching countless salt bread videos on the internet and I kept on picturing just how great the crunch and the buttery goodness would be—Ginger’s successfully brought that flavor. It was served warm, so the extra crunch on the first bite was heavenly… and so was the rest of it.
The dark chocolate banana pudding was a complete indulgence I didn’t know I needed. I have always been a fan of banana pudding, but the dark choco added more flavor to it. It was on the bitter side, but that’s exactly what elevates the sweetness of the banana pudding itself. The overall texture? Feels like you’re munching on a soft pillow. Yum.
Unfortunately I had to commute back to Bekasi and I couldn’t imagine just how tiring it would be considering the peak hour, so I thought, “Why not have dinner here too while we’re at it?” So I ordered their Ayam Goreng Sereh.
One thing about me is that I can be pretty skeptical about rice and savory meals in cafés. Most of the times they’re only a mere satisfaction and there’s nothing special about them, but the nasi ayam goreng sereh here is a dark horse. This is the kind of ayam goreng that I like. Full of spices, cut into bite sizes for convenience, and with a fulfilling portion too! Out of everything I ate here that day, I went home still thinking about it.
Overall, my experience with Ginger’s Diner was very pleasant. Definitely gonna come again one day and I wish to try out their...
Read moreI’m so excited to have a great matcha place close to home! Their matcha has a very complex, layered flavor. It’s bitter, slightly umami, and has a grassy tone. The texture of the matcha is creamy. For those who are lactose intolerant like me, they offer plant-based milk options, including oat and almond milk! The matcha latte is perfect if you prefer your drink to be sweeter and creamier. The extra rich matcha, on the other hand, is distinctly bitter but still creamy. In my opinion, their coffee and chocolate are just okay. The atmosphere of the place is cute, with lots of flowers and some books, but I don’t really enjoy the playlist—it’s too upbeat and loud for such a small space. The staff are quick and hospitable. I didn't take pictures of the drinks because they were for takeout. I may come back or order...
Read moreSaw this cafe on social media, i was tempted by their variety of matcha drinks. I find it very cozy home cafe, nicr ambience facing tanah abang station. Very accessible by public transportation in the middle of buzy streets.
I ordered matcha latte with banana pudding. The matcha is quite okay, i prefer thick and bitter matcha, but the highlight is the banana puding, it's smooth and sweet, matches the matcha taste without overpowering the drinks.
I loved the food, the cumi asin sambal. it taste like home, the squid portion is a lot and the egg just like what i've requested. I also like they serve it with kerupuk and in a pretty plate.
Overall it's quite fun hangout place, also for personal...
