Apologies for the long review
There are many places you can visit in Bali. Those notable are Seminyak, Kuta and even Ubud. In those places there are many good eateries, but then there are those off the beaten path that get unnoticed. It may due to its location or even the fact that it isn't popular enough and isn't a chain restaurant. I present to you a diamond in the rough Happy Cow, in Jimbaran.
You will find the drive on the way very off the grid, with dirt roads along the way. It will feel almost like you are a local with the atmosphere around the roads.
We arrived around 6:30pm with a smile and passionate welcome by the waitress who showed us to our table on the rooftop of the house. The whole place is very homey with a cozy feel to it as pots of plants are decorating the building.
We ordered the Wagyu Rice Saikoro that was decorated with a special sauce and Chicken Steak with a brown almost peppercorn sauce and roasted potatoes, both served with a side of lettuce.
The food was amazing, tender chicken with a subtle grill flavour that was complimented by the sauce so well, the roasted potatoes that were soft and the wagyu rice saikoro, melt in your mouth slices that went well with the soft rice and delectable lettuce and the dressing.
We were the only customers at the time or at least the first for the night from the looks of it and were gifted a free mushroom soup with garlic bread. The taste was amazing, nothing to overpowering or too artificially flavoured. A subtle true mushroom taste that was addicting to the spoonful dressed in splash of truffle oil and with the side of the garlic bread it was the perfect pair.
The whole experience is really like none other, it makes you feel like you have a personal chef as you create conversations with the chef and the waitress. The utter kindness is none other like you will receive from any other place, they ensure you are comfortable and will try their best to accomodate your needs. They are humble and kind and for my fellow travellers, their english is very clear and concise. I only wish the best for this family and the restaurant and truly believe you should give this restaurant a try on...
Read moreCasual fine dine restaurant located in residential area and its a little challenging to find for the first time because of its location. They offer a set menu omakase or ala carte menu, my suggestion try the set menu with wagyu 9+ beef for better experience unless you already been here. I ordered a set menu omakase wagyu 9+, they served you an entree, a soup, a middle dish, a sushi, one portion of steak and a dessert.
Entree, they served you otoro with caviar, minced tuna and fried aubergine (or zucchini I forgot). The otoro meat is flavourful with no fishy smell, never had this kind of otoro meat in indonesia. If you eat it together you it elevates more of the otoro. You can only get this if you ordered a set menu, its not in the a la carte menu.
Soup, mushroom soup with truffle with garlic bread on the side. Its a decent mushroom soup, it taste better if you dip the bread in the soup.
Middle dish is a scallop dish. Scallop taste tender and flavourful.
Sushi, it consist of salmon belly with fish roe, otoro sushi, beef sushi and otoro maki. All of it are delicious, my favourite is salmon. No fishy smell in the fish meat.
Steak, they served you striploin steak, with roasted potato and 3 different sauces. They give you a torch and butter, so to eat the steak, you put some butter in the steak and torch the butter until it melted then dip in the sauce you like. The steak is tender and well seasoned, for the sauce brown sauce is my favourite. Roasted potato cooked perfectly and well seasoned as well. Its tastier in mu opinion if you dip salt pepper, torch it then dip again in the brown sauce.
Dessert, cube fresh mango, with guava sorbet and lychee poppings. Taste is okay, but after a lot of savoury food, its very refreshing.
Overall, delicious casual meat fine dining, not as pricey as typical fine dine. Services is excellent, they have a surprise if you said you are having a very special...
Read moreSERVICES The service was top notch, lots of smile and happy faces, the staffs were happily explaining any question with regard to the food. Swift response, and again, tons of smile.
PLACE There are no dedicated parking spaces, but the side road in front of (and across) the restaurant can be used for parking.
The restaurant is a two story building both has outdoor and indoor area. Outdoor upper floor can be quite breezy in the evening.
FOOD Now it comes to the food - which in most cases and at other places, will always be subjected to general qualifications of (A) quality of ingredients supplied to the restaurant at the relevant time, and sometimes (B) the mood of the chef.
My wife and I ordered (i) Wagyu 7+ {medium}, (ii) Black Angus Sirloin {medium well}, and (iii) California Roll.
The meat were both a bit overcooked and had a tangy fatty after taste (we never experienced similar flavor of meat on other restaurants) {should the problem is the quality of the meat, please always be referring to qualifications (A) above}. NEVERTHELESS, they were still tender, juicy, and pleasant to eat.
As for the sushi, the steamed rice were not quite sticky and easily falling off, so better not using chopstick. But again, the taste was fairly okay.
CONCLUSION Overall, we can agree that similar culinary experience may be difficult to be found in other restaurant in Bali, but as for the food we ordered, we personally consider that they may be rated 3-4 stars, but services are obviously 5 stars.
PLEASE NOTE THAT this review is written based on the food we ordered and the condition we experienced at our time of visit. We never tried other food listed in the menu and this is our first time visiting this place. We are not food experts or professionals in culinary field.
