This is a still-popular traditional restaurant that is located in BSD area. The venue is a traditional Indonesian style village resto, with plenty of seating areas. I think it has a capacity of more than 200 people.
The best think about this place is the fact that it is built under a large ecosystem of tall bamboo trees so that it is naturally cool and shady, even at noon time.
The chairs and tables are made of wood and bamboo, but should be good enough for dining in and have a good chat with friends while enjoying some authentic traditional Indonesian-Javanese cuisine.
The prices aren't cheap, but should worth the experience. The food taste is also standard, but I find the mangut stingray quite delicious.
They have separate toilets for men and women, and they are kept quite clean. And they even have smoking area.
The challenge for a new comer would be the parking lot, as the venue is locate in the middle of cemetery and local village, which access road is pretty small, not passable for cars, so you might need to park your car a little bit further from the venue. The villagers provides parking areas around the surrounding neighborhood, around 200 meters from the venue. Please note that the road to the parking area is also a village road, but if you are good at driving, big cars won't be a problems either.
The people and surrounding area is quite safe and it is very common for car owners to park at the...
Read moreThis place is one of a kind. Do not expect fancy chairs with fancy serving dishes, they only serve the food on what so called 'piring seng', it'a a traditional plate made of coated cans. To go there, be sure you use your Google Map, as it is not easy to reach. No, it is not far. But it is located in the middle of the wood in the middle of the heap of Tangerang in the middle of rural housing area where you need to drive through a narrow alley-like-road and ta-da there it is. A little walk fron random parking space, a bit muddy as i came after the rain, but really worth the walk. A sanctuary, hidden gem, for real. If you ever get lost on the way, just ask away, people there are very super friendly. I did lost, and a young man showed us the way with happy smile, we offered tips but he refused, he said it was pleasure to help. Wow!!! So, food now. We ordered almost everything as we were not sure what to eat. There were nasi merah (red rice), Ikan Asap Mangut (smoked stingray fish in mangut style cooking), tumis bunga pepaya (papaya's flower sautee), Asem asam Iga Sapi (Beef Ribs in thick coconut Asam broth style), pisang goreng ( deep fried Banana plantain), fresh squeeze orange, Sop ayam kampung (kampung style chicken soup), telur dadar (traditional omelet), coconut water, and tea. We ate it all like we haven't done it in a week. Price is relatively affordable for that much of food...
Read moreA thematic eating place hidden deeper somewhere in outskirt of BSD. It hosts by local youngsters wearing traditional outfit, they will greet and lead you to the available table, if there is. The procedure to order here: first you go to the "dapur" (kitchen) and pick your main course which consists of Javanese mixed Sumatran meals like Mangut Ikan Asap (smoked fish with coconut milk soup), Dendeng Batokok (kinda beef jerk), Sayur Bunga Pepaya (saute papaya flowers with salty fish), Sambal Hijau (saute green chilies in oil) etc. Mostly spicy. Then you carry on to the "krupuk" (crackers) part where they offer many varieties (unfortunately am not fan of crackers). After that, the beverage booth. I'm told they have this "es jeruk" (fresh orange juice) is recommended, too bad I'm not into. So we order es teh tarik (iced Thai tea) and es wedang sereh (iced lemon grass). The next part is the "gorengan" (fritters), come in a pack of 2 or 3. We order tempeh mendoan (thinly sliced wide soybean cake fritter) and bakuan jagung (corn base fritter). Lastly, cashier table. The overall taste of the meal is good, spices are bold, tend to be hot. We enjoy our lunch and amaze that there's no mosquitoes at all although we're in the middle of some kinda bamboo forest and bushes. The cons of this place: confusing route, and the parking cost of a motorbike is idr5,000....
