ICHIHANA - Modern Japanese Resto — Restaurant in Surabaya

Went here for a surprise outing with my wife. I have to say, I was more than pleasantly surprised. There are a couple of things to break down so let us start with the following:

Price: two person meal plus GOOD Japanese beer (Kirin and Asahi) costed us 500 k. For good Japanese teppan and beer that price is unmatched. 65 k for Japanese beers is just amazing.

the meal: two people for 380k before tax is also a bargain. Other teppan places in Surabaya would charge you three times this at least. We got the set menu which includes a fried tofu (good but can be hotter), shrimp rolls othat were perfectly seasoned with butter and soy sauce, beef with butter and soy, a vegetable tempura set, chawan mushi, miso soup, and a banana flambé dessert. Everything was perfectly seasoned and well-cooked. Also, they had a salmon in the set as well which was glistening as we pulled it apart in a very rich dashi broth.

The ambiance: Cramped and small but cozy enough and well-designed due to limited space.

The service: very attentive considering it was packed but not full. Everything was taken away quickly, the chef and server were professional, special shoutout to chef Funta and Mr. Iwan.

Bottomline, if yall want good hibachi at an affordable price, this is the place to be. Reminiscent of benihana in Surabaya (rhyme...

Pertama kali datang kesini, 14.06.25, setelah sebelumnya lokasi sama jadi favorit restoku.

Ichihana overall 5🌟 worth the money. Pesan 4 menu dan semua berhasil : Beef saikoro mozzarella w shoyu sauce, meatnya pilih meltique karena opsi lokal yang standard dan paling murah habis, tapi menurutku import beef-nya terlalu pricey utk saikoro. Soyu saus nya enak, boleh minta extra kalau kurang, karena penyajian dipisah. Chicken Hibachi, grilled chicken empuk, manis, gurih, dengan 3 saus. Semacam saus asin pedas dikit (ada terong tumisnya), saus tartar putih, dan saus pesto hijau. Recommended buat ortu yg butuh ayam empuk. Not recommended buat anak2 karena terong tumisnya agak pedas krn cabe besar. Tapi pas grilled chicken nya dimakan dengan soyu sauce dari beef saikoro, surprisingly cocok lho.. Chicken katsu curry rice, saus curry nya enaaaak, cocok buat anak2 krn ga pedas. Minta saos pisah saja, lebih enak ga eneg. Meski chicken katsunya kurang gendut, tapi tepungnya ga keras, jadi okelah. Ini menu kesukaan anakku, kurasa karena saus curry nya yg memang enak dan ga terlalu rempah. Jd buat anak2 msh acceptable. Pork gyoza nya good compliment for the main course. Pas buat dimakan sambil nunggu main course datang. Saosnya juga enak. Sampai bungkus porsi ke2. 👍

Input terkait F&B: Coba pertimbangkan menu : grilled chicken + soyu sauce. Anak2 pasti suka👌 Semoga bisa review lagi pricing untuk import beef nya kalau memang mau laku di tipe beef itu. Karena kalau 260rb, kayaknya ekspektasi orang bisa dapat bentuk steak meski cuma 100gr, bukan bentuk saikoro meski 120-150gr.

Vibes : Good music, clean table, nice lighting, tapi boleh lah lebih dingin lagi. Kok ini sumuk. Hahahaha

Service : Sempat salah antar makanan orang lain ke meja saya. Input: Seharusnya sebelum dikasih ke meja yg bener, bawa masuk dulu ke kitchen. Biar meja yg dapat makanannya ga rasa risih krn makanan mereka baru dari meja sy dan sudah kusentuh piringnya (geser2 untuk foto). Padahal sudah 2x kupastikan, ini bener punya sy? Kok sausnya encer? Curry kan kental. Nasinya mana? Tapi katanya sudah benar. Ujung2nya salah. Wkkakaka. Untung aku belum omel2 dan nunjukin foto chicken katsu curry di menu ya.. hahahaha. Mungkin masih grogi krn resto baru kah? Kalau customer aja aware menu yg diantar salah, lah kok restonya ga? 😅 Prosedurnya perlu diteliti lagi, Mungkin sebaiknya sebelum drop makanan di meja, cek dulu kertas order yg sudah ditempel di meja. Pastikan makanan yg dibawa, memang yg dipesan meja tsb.

The fried rice, teriyaki chicken, and the sauce were absolutely top notch — full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Definitely the highlight of the meal!

However, the Saikoro Kurumi beef was disappointing — lacked tenderness and wasn’t very flavorful. Even worse, the mozzarella cheese on the dish came out solid and unmelted, which really took away from the experience.

Great flavors overall, but consistency in execution needs work. I’d come back for the fried rice and teriyaki, but would skip the...
