So here we were, a couple of visitors from Australia who were told that we should drop into Doolin because it’s the home of Irish music. And so, because we were visiting the nearby Cliffs of Moher, we did. Walked into Fitz’s pub which was empty at 3pm and were told by the lovely bartender that, yes, there would be live music this evening. We booked a room at Hotel Doolin just down the road and came back at 7.30pm for a delicious meal (steak and mussels) and great desserts. Warm hospitality. Drinks at reasonable prices. The fireplace was adding to the ambience. “High Stool Mac” were rostered to play from 8.30pm. Not being from the area, we honestly thought it might be a one or two person musical group. At 9pm a couple of musicians arrived, followed by a couple more, followed by a couple more. What then transpired was, for us, one of the best nights out ever. All in all I counted 8 musicians playing together at various times. Some would sub in. Some would sub out. Normally 6 playing at any one time. Each and every song or musical piece was so good. During the evening the band stopped as an older gentleman sang the Croppy Boy (about the 1798 rebellion). All the younger people hushed and listened reverently as this was sung. It was moving and it was beautiful. So I say to all of you in the band last night, Thankyou for the bottom of my heart. You must be used to such things in Ireland. But things like this don’t happen in Australia. It was like being in the living room of someone’s house last night. The drinks flowed, the music flowed, the love flowed. It was all still going at 12.30am on a cold dark night in the wilds of Ireland. It was bloody magnificent. I love Ireland and I love Fitz’s pub. And thank you, so much, High Stool Mac, for the lifelong memories created last night. Core...

The absolute WORST meal & drink the entire time I was in Ireland. Couldn't figure out while there was sulphite allergy listed for EVERY item on the menu so I asked to speak to the chef. Waiter comes back to say it is because all of their sauces are pre-made prepackaged sauces. First... if I'm paying $40 for a steak I dont expect to be served prepackaged un fresh food including sauce. Chef Ramsey would be screaming.... then I ending up ordering onion rings and a cauliflower steak w butterbean puree. I've never had onion rings with zero flavor. None... the cauliflower had zero seasoning... my "steak" was nothing but a bowl of cauliflower and the best thing about it was the beans. I ordered a Gin & Tonic. They didn't have Bombay... they did not have Tangeuray... wo i got gunpowder. Ok... but then I couldn't even drink it....why??? Because they brought out some Janky Tonic made with sucralose... yup artificial sweetener chemicals in the tonic. It was like a diet gin n tonic and the worst drink I've ever had in my life... hands down. Why in the world would you have a menu of pretentious organic wine then serve someone chemical filled tonic water and sulphite filled sauces. The waiter never came around with the check... finally after 20 min he came and cleared a plate and still never came back w the check so after another 15 min I got up and went to the manager who was at the hostess counter.

Don't eat here..... Go down the road to Gus O Connors Pub & Restaurant.... ate their for lunch and had the absolute best...

We just visited Fitz for lunch on a Tuesday at 2pm. There were maybe 3 tables with other customers, the place was mostly empt. We were sat and given water, but our drink order was never taken. From here, we sat unattended for 15 minutes with no menus. I had to ask another server for menus who gave us two menus for a party of four. Our waitress finally came over to take our orders (we still didn’t get to put in a drink order), and when I ordered the burger, I asked to have it cooked medium. She replied “No we can’t do that, all the burgers are cooked well done”. The burger did in fact come out well done, hockey-pucked, I like to say. The rest of my family got fish and chips which was okay. After our food came out we again had to ask another waitress if we could get two beers. She said yes, went and told our server we wanted two beers, and went back to work. Fine, right? No. Our server never got the beers and we had to go up to the bar to order them from the bartender about 10 minutes later. And, not once while we were eating did she check in on us. Everything from our time eating there was done by another server, except for her taking the orders after we asked for menus. I’m sure this pub has a nice atmosphere with music and drinks, and it was a cool place, but the food was below average, and the service was just terrible. I’ve never had such a bad experience in a restaurant before, and we’ve been to a lot of places! I would avoid this place for...

We stopped in the pub on September 10 for a late lunch. I'd read an article about great restaurants in Doolin. When we got to Doolin, there was only one place open. So, we went to Fitz's Pub. We walked in and there were many open tables but they all had dirty dishes on them. I asked if we could get a table for two and the young girl told me that it would be about ten minutes. So, we literally just stood around and tried to stay out of people's way. Then some time later another employee asked me what I needed, I told her a table for two. I asked if we could have the cute little table nestled in the corner. She told me that she was seating someone else there (someone who just walked in). So, I asked if we could have the table closest to the bar as there was only a small amount of dirty dishes on it. She allowed us to take that table and someone came and cleaned it. All in, we probably stood around awkwardly for 20 minutes. We sat down and the server seemed irritated. We had already ordered our drinks at the bar so we just ordered two seafood chowders. The chowders were not bad, not great. Mine had a mussel with a broken shell and a mussel with a clamped closed shell. Couldn't eat those. The pints were good. I'm giving three stars, that being said, it wasn't a good experience
