Disappointing Experience
We ordered takeaway from Shapla on the 31st of December, and I regret to say the service was unacceptable. When I called to place the order, I asked the person on the phone to give me a moment to get the Airbnb address. Instead of being patient, he told me to call back when I was ready and ended the call abruptly. When I called back with the address, he struggled to hear me and repeatedly moaned in frustration, even though I repeated myself several times.
When the delivery driver arrived, I couldn’t tell if it was the same person or not, but the attitude was just as unpleasant. We told him to give us a second while we grabbed the cash for our €90 order, and he sighed, placed the food on the ground, and snatched the money rudely before walking away without a word.
As for the food, the quality was equally disappointing. I found a hair in the food, the rice was unsalted, the chips were cold, and the butter chicken tasted like leftover curry sauce from the day before. The only redeeming item was the naan bread, but even that was overly doughy.
I understand it was New Year’s Eve and a busy time, but this does not excuse such poor service and attitude. Customer service is crucial in the restaurant industry, and sadly, none of that was evident during our experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and I hope the management takes this feedback seriously to improve both their food quality and their attitude...
Read moreNormally don't write bad review but this one experience was way too bad and needs a mention. Had the worst food and the most terrible experience ever in all my years in Ireland.
When asked for recommendation, instead of explaining the food options, The staff just boasted everything is top quality.
The food is nowhere near a good tasting indian cuisine. Their biryani should be avoided at all times, it's just something like a pilav sans any veg just masala n meat that you ordered.
When advised that the food was not upto the standards, the staff became defensive and rude. They did offer to replace but by that time we had enough of this nonsense and hence refused any replacement, paid and left. At times the guy tried to even question ones nationality in humor, which might be friendly in his mind but was just a bit over the line for one of my friend.
They do try and say authentic Bengali style of cooking but unfortunately two of the ppl in our group are bengali from India n Bangladesh and they confirmed it didn't taste like any bengali cuisine.
Additionally i think they write on menu that some food items are cooked in clay oven, but when asked specifically he admitted its just over gas oven.
Hope they improve, but I am never going...
Read moreI ordered from shapla two times. First time we ordered chicken biryani, yellow dal & lemon ginger rice. At that rice and dal was of good quality and taste but biryani was not up to the mark. Second time we ordered saag paneer and lemon ginger rice. This time both the things were pathetic. I won't ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. In rice lemon was in excess quantity & it was very difficult to eat. In saag paneer they put melted cheese that wasn't even good to taste. Still we had to eat the same because it was already very late and we didn't cook anything. Please shapla stop doing such blunders. It was on my husband's birthday and shapla ruined it.
I am going to edit the review of shapla. I visited shapla again this time with few of my friends on weekend and ordered chicken butter, chef special and dal. This time order was too good. Staff was too good and service was quick...
