Literally one of the most abysmal experiences of customer service I have ever had the misfortune to suffer through as a disabled man. I've been working through mixed manic episodes/possible fits stemming from the difficulties of being born partially sighted and only having hearing on my right hand side and was skating to meet my parents. My parents insisted on picking me up at short notice so I needed the toilet and intended to buy something afterwards. As the Hermitage wasn't open and I was desperate to avoid an episode I needed to go into a cafe I had not been in before and looked too boutique to actually bother with basic accommodations for disabled people.
I asked (admittedly abruptly as I was distressed) where the disabled toilet was as I assumed something as up market as this cafe would bound to have one. I was vaguely waved to "the one in the back" and given no precise directions. There was only one toilet, with some assistive features (well a fold back support arm). The door did not have an occupied indicator so someone rattled the doorknob whilst I was trying to calm down, go to the toilet and change my clothes. There was no pull chord or emergency indicator system near the toilet so if I did have a fit I would not be able to get help easily. The toilet cleaning check list had no updates on it, only red smudges from previously erased checks. They had plenty of budget for fancy moisturisers though, so if you are middle class and able bodied this place would suit you fine.
The one member of staff who had already failed to give enough support to help me find the toilet calmly, did not turn off the background music when asked, only turning it to low volume which was distressing given it was on my hearing side and her mask prevented me from lipreading her. She was grudging in turning the music off. She refused to give her name. She refused was unaware of the Equalities Act and how it relates to Disabilties and seemed truculent and sceptical when I stated I had disabilities. As her service was so poor I became more distressed and asked for the manager. She said I should look at the website, which is the kind of ableist thing a modern digital native would say. I insisted that she call the manager. My own distress impacted on her and she resorted to backing into a corner and texting on a phone. By that point I could see my parents were looking for me outside so I had to leave.
I will be copying this review onto Euan's Guide (which the staff had also not heard of). I hope that better staff training and adjustments are forthcoming lest some other more disabled person makes the mistake of wandering in there and getting...
Read moreArrived here and was excited to see a new Restaurant opening in town so looked forward to being looked after by what we hoped would be enthuasistic staff. We were very disappointed. We were seated immediatly and given menus to browse which boded well but thats where our good experience ended. We were left for ages before someone finally returned to take our order as they had apparently forgotten us. But as it was busy we tried to let this go. I ordered a Chicken Waldolf Salad and my wife ordered the soup and my Daughter ordered the chicken melt sandwich. Our food arrived and we waited 5 minutes before we were able to recall a waitress and ask for cuttlery as they neglected to give us any. My salad was some lettuce in a bowl with a couple dried cranberries (the tastiest part of the dish) and a small amount of walnuts with 2 tiny pieces of apple and little or no dressing. The 4 very small pieces of chicken on top were flavoursome. I did manage to get dressing finally when nce again after a wait we managed to get a waitresses attention. At 8.95 for the salad I would have expected something a little more tasty. This is a very simple dish to make and errors cannot be forgiven.
My daughters melt said "served with salad" which was 2 leaves of lettuce on the side of a very basic sandwich which cost 7.95 The only dish that was anywhere near what one would expect was the soup which was vegetable with a coconut flavour... Definitely needs to improve if it's...
Read moreRang in an order to Galway cafe accidentally which was meant for the tuam cafe, honest mistake, which I apologized to the staff for. Owner happened to be there and rang up the Galway store to double check what we had ordered to make sure it was correct. But when my colleague went in to collect it we got two wraps that were not what we ordered from the Galway cafe, and one ‘warm’ green smoothie. I went back to return my wrap and the owners customer service was appalling. He was shouting at me in front of everyone in the cafe and kept saying it was my fault. I explained calmly that I understood but I still paid for the wrap at the end of the day and he refused to replace the wrap or to give me a refund. I wouldn’t reccomend this place to anyone. Customer service was dire. If I could give it no stars I would. I hope he treats his staff better than he treats his customers. Regardless of the mistake with the order it was the way the owner handled...
