Despite the venue being well decorated and comfortable the staff and the service here make it an absolute no-go.

Orders repeatedly brought out incorrectly and with extra non-existent drinks on bill. Table service only and the wait time between ordering a beverage and receiving was around 15-20 mins each round. (We had three).

Food took ridiculous length of time and was mediocre at absolute best. We were given a table that we were told was free for the evening and just shy of two hours in we were told table was needed (5 other same sized tables free beside us), we were told all others were booked up and we should leave, this was a family dinner with two kids sitting quietly, not exactly a rowdy bunch.

Manager Andy was incredibly rude and when we questioned this, he then bizarrely told us we had been there for 4 hours (told us this at 5.45pm when we actually only had gotten onto the train to go there at 3pm). Also maybe important to add that there is no current time restrictions in place due to the pandemic anyway, so we were altogether unsure of what mistaken point he was attempting to make.

He then conceded that the table was not required and that the real reason he asked us to leave was because we had kids ‘who were running around’, one child was in high chair eating and the other had been out of his seat to visit the bathroom with me, supervised and given out to for ‘running around’.

Andy then proceeded to lose his temper, go puce red in complexion and shout at our table that we were ‘being cut off’. Absolutely bizarre behavior and incredibly unprofessional. I understand everyone has off days but my goodness this was embarrassing.

Unfortunately we will not be returning which is a shame because it’s a lovely venue with great potential but is let down by poor service and...

We called ahead to book a table and asked if we could bring a dog with us, to which we were told that’s no problem if we sit in the outdoor area. We asked if there was cover and heating and were told that there is, so we said great and the person on the phone then booked us a table outside. We travelled across the city with my mother and my sister’s children, only to be told when we arrived that dogs can’t come in to the heated outdoor area and we would have to sit in the dark uncovered smoking area where there were no tables available. The manager told us we were wrong and that the staff member on the phone had not told us we could bring the dog (despite me having proof of the booking that he had made for us in this area after the discussion about the dog). The staff we spoke to were rude and dismissive and we had to go find somewhere else to have dinner at short notice, despite the area they’d booked for us being virtually empty. We wouldn’t have brought the dog with us if we’d been given correct information! The worst part was the attitude of the staff member and the manager who would not admit their mistake and kept saying “mm don’t think so” despite showing proof of the booking made by his employee for us....

You go in and ask for a pint for takeway because you ordered from somewhere else and you like to have a pint also and thought to order from LockKeeper for takeaway. Suddenly one guy comes and tells you they don't do take away and please leave now, like get out now. You go outside, you see the huge takeway sign, attached picture, you come back and ask why no takeway since there is a sign outside for it and you are confused. Sudddenly the same guy starts shouting and threatening you and screaming get the f out now. You leave and come back shocked asking again why that language and who is the manager, and guess what, he is the manager. After further talks he kinda apologized, but in no way that felt like an apology, and definitely he thought he didn't do anything wrong. So you go outside like a donkey, being swared at and told to get the f out without any proper apology, ohh and all this coming from the manager himself. I have no words for this...

Before this place got redecorated and new management it was the canal bar, I live locally and I despised the canal bar, it was dark and dreary and I was always sick after eating there. Now the lock keeper is my favourite place. I'm there probably about once a week!! I always tip very well because I'm just so happy with the staff and the food. The food is up to such good standards. The chicken wings and beef burger being my favourite things on the menu. They always have a new cocktail specail about every week and everytime it's delicious. Andy the manager is such a lovely and polite man. Always makes us feel very welcome. The bar men are great mixologists and the waitresses have fantastic people skills. Highly reccomend!

I usually like to stop there and I was many times ,but this time I am giving the lowest possible review for food that was served to me fish chowder with literally two muscles inside and two tiny slices of bread .Please see yourself and let me know if anyone would pay 14 euro for this .Service is good ,the place is a nice and quiet location, but I suggest better caution with food since it's not important just visual ,Aldo portions are also small and tiny and there is no value in that meal at all . Disappointment today..Please see the attached photo of what I was served and what I got .I ordered fish chowder and one beer total cost of 21 euro and was left disappointed with the food completely .
