We went there because of all the reviews & photos of food looked super. Well ours was nothing like the photos & the soup had absolutely no flavour at all for a start. People around us, were not happy either, people waiting for food for ages, one table had 2 meals brought out, they were nearly finished that & asked was there any chance the other 2 meals would be given to their family, about 10mins those 2 arrived. Another family ordered drinks & Miwadi for the kids, I don't know how long it took to actually get the plastic cups for the kids. I asked for an extra slice of brown bread with the soup & I might aswell have been asking for her left arm !! My hubby was waiting & waiting & waiting, the staff were chatting away & no sign of the bread, I asked again & off she went & got it. My turkey dinner was tastless, my husbands steak sandwich was the worst he got he said. I asked for a slice of meat for the dog, she wouldn't eat it either 🤔

The staff had no interest in been there, no initiative either.

I had not been there in years & thought we would try it out but it was an absolute waste of money & my hubby took Alka-Seltzer when he got home. I drank lots of water & feel better now.

We won't be back & I won't be recommending the food...

Went last night for first meal out since restrictions lifted.

The seating: Our group was seated in a covered outdoor area with the potential to seat about 25 people, it was 1/2-3/4 full when we first sat down but we were the last there when we ordered desert. I felt it was well ventilated so I felt safe. It was a lovely warm evening but there were heaters installed so I imagine this would be a very nice seating area even on a cooler night. There was also some individual booth style seating further up which could probably be requested if you wanted to feel even safer.

The staff: The staff were incredible, they made us feel so at ease and were chatty and friendly throughout. Service was very prompt.

The food: Great menu, something for everyone. We had the steak ciabata, the carbonara and the Cajun burger, all were delicious. The vegetarian sweet potato and chickpea curry also looked very tempting. for dessert we had the toblorone cake and the ferrero Roche cheesecake, both were fabulous and beautifully plated.

We have booked to...

Was here Sunday 27th Nov at about 3.30pm with 2 hiking friends. When we walked in we politely asked a woman (possible manager) for a table for 3. She informed us that they were booked out and that they were not serving food outside as they had complaints about it been too cold. She said we could sit outside and order drinks which we accepted. While outside having our drinks a family arrived and sat outside also. After a while I seen the family served food so I asked waitress for a menu she said no problem and went inside to get menus. After a few minutes she arrived back and said sorry we are not serving food outside. I said they just got food over, she just replied sorry and went off. On our way out a couple walked in and asked is it possible to get a table and we're told no problem in a few minutes. Last time I was here with a large group after a hike they wouldn't even let us drink in the bar. We had to drink I the hall on way into the lounge. Very bad service and they seem to dislike Hikers. Staff didn't seem friendly at...

One of the last proper old fashioned pubs left. Great atmosphere. The upstairs holds 200+ visitors for a music night. GREAT SHOW. Music, irish dancing and general Craic served along side a pretty good 3 course meal. Drinks of all kuds available. Downstairs there is a separate dining room for the restaurant or over flow music show. I've attended both and can highly recommend them. Food for the shows is reliably consistent and good. Think how tricky it us to serve 200+ hot plates of food. Tasty too. Downstairs is the bar as well as casual dining. Good choice of great food cooked the way you want it, served with a smile by attentive friendly staff. The Guiness is great and lots of other beverages to choose from. I go here quite alot and have never been disappointed. Try it. I brought 5 people for quick bite to eat. As usual SUPERB, fast, tasty food served quickly. Great staff. Highly recommend going.

The Merry Ploughboy is a treasure. They have live shows every night (which we unfortunately missed due to our schedule), old artifacts all over, and has a unique atmosphere. Go check it out for yourself. My husband ordered the Irish Angus 12oz striploin steak and he said this was the best steak he has ever had. It was cooked exactly as he requested. I ordered the Cajun chicken fillet burger with cheese. Hands down, the best chicken fillet burger I've ever had. The seasoning was perfect and the added cheese complimented it nicely. The chips were amazing as well. This is the first time we ever had peppercorn sauce and it's now one of our favorites. The food came out quickly and was hot. The atmosphere was amazing and everyone was very nice. Do yourself a favor and stop by and have a nice dinner.
