Chez Hans

I really wanted to love my experience here since I had heard so many positive word of mouth reviews, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy my evening.

Pros:

• The gentleman who greeted us at the bar was outstanding; he was very welcoming and an excellent host.
• The Guinness was fantastic.
• The ambiance of the restaurant itself was just beautiful.

Cons:

• They seemed to have one - maybe 2 - waiters working (alongside several others who merely bring out orders). This made it really difficult to grab our waiters attention and after trying several times I had to go out to the bar area myself to ask for another round of drinks for the table. (We were not asked or checked on once during our meal if we would like more drinks). Our waiter took our orders, briefly came back once mains were served to check the food was okay (which was right after I had gone out to the bar area myself) but apart from that he didn't come to our table any other time. Had it come back, we may have ordered sides. We didn't feel 'taken care of' at all. Even when the servers brought food to the table they disappeared just as quickly making it difficult to ask them for drinks/sides.
• The food was such a let down to me. While the presentation of each plate couldn't be faulted, the actual quality was extremely lacking. I had the beef and at that price point it was incredibly underwhelming - I even left some on my plate. It was cooked just how I asked, but it just wasn't a good cut of beef; I'd go so far as to say it was one of the worst I've had?

Honestly, the food quality at the Horse and Jockey a few KMs down the motorway was better (and that's a very different, very casual, lower budget option to Chez Hans - they're not exactly comparable, but the quality differences are vast).

Maybe I have higher standards/expectations personally? I don't know, but at these prices I expected a hell of a lot more.

I was really disappointed in my evening here and it saddens me to say that I won't be coming back.
