Green Spice — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Callan — Thomastown

I’m writing to clarify the below few reviews on what actually occurred, as I was the waitress on shift that evening. I can confirm that the account in the bottom two reviews is completely false. On the night in question, your party of eight arrived and placed your orders promptly. Meanwhile, three tables of two people each were also dining and observed what unfolded. The chef felt considerable pressure from your table, as you repeatedly requested extras and voiced complaints about why items hadn’t arrived—even though he had confirmed they were already on the way. When he entered the dining area express this to your table, the reaction was hostility and raised voices instead of understanding. This behavior made the other guests visibly uncomfortable—your group showed no awareness that your shouting was causing a disturbance. After you completed your meal and departed, you contacted the Gardaí and made allegations of racism. However, one of the witnesses from the nearby table shared their observation, and I also spoke to the officers about what I saw. Once the full context was presented, the Gardaí clearly understood the situation at hand. I’m personally ashamed that your review has defamed the business in this manner. What you posted does not reflect the reality of the night, and the people who were present—including the chef and other diners—dispite the claims made. We are a South African family of 4 (2 adult and 2 kids - bet 4-8) on holiday in Kilkenny, Ireland staying at the Mount Juliet and decided to have dinner outside the hotel today. We decided to try Green Spice in the neighbouring town of Thomastown for dinner but appalled at the reception we received due to having kids with us. We were ushered to a table (that was not even made up) at the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms yet we were the only people in the restaurant. When we asked for another table in the main seating area we were told that we were put in the back because the restaurant is going to get other customers and we have children and children are messy and touch everything. When we said we didn’t want that table because of its position, the manager said we must leave because he’s not moving us in the main area. We didn’t even get to see the menu or try the food but to receive this level of service...

We had a takeaway and like some of the other reviews mentioned, there is simply not enough meat in the dishes. It is far too expensive for a takeaway and the portion sizes. The onion bhajis were cremated and then reheated. I would be embarrassed giving them to someone let alone selling them. I never finish an Indian takeaway when at home (we were visiting family) but this didn’t fill any of us. The containers are very large but they are all sauce. Additionally rice is extra and does not come with the dishes. Portions of that are small. We ordered two Naan breads and they gave us the incorrect ones. And in the same vein every Indian restaurant I have been to around the world provide complimentary poppadoms, mint sauce etc. There was none of that here. I won’t...
