I don't usually review many places but I really loved my experience here.
My friends brought me to Lekker yesterday. I've had plenty of SA food over the years, being lucky enough to have been invited to many Braais over the years and I was excited to try more dishes.
We went in and were greeted by a hilarious host, very charming and lovely. When I asked for the Bunny Chow, I was asked if I would like it spicy, which is always a great request. I said yes and she had a look of quiet approval.
When it came out, the presentation was amazing, the hollowed out loaf of absolutely incredible bread that I've never had before, was stuffed with the best beef curry I've ever tasted. Rich, full of wonderful seasonings and coupled with potatoes that were perfectly cooked. Beautiful.
As we were paying I saw all the Parisian style pastries that blow Irish baked goods out of the water. I had to grab a few. A class Bailey's cheesecake pattiserie.
What a wonderfully strange, incredible addition to the town. A South African, specifically Durban-Indian fusion with a Parisian Pattiserie section. Amazing. It's a shame it's a bit of a drive away from me, but I'll 100% be...
Read moreWowsers what a fantastic eatary. I was across the road in The Green Angel and Rosie recommended Lekkers to me, for which I am forever grateful. To be fair from the outside it looks so unassuming and the decor is minimalist but quirky. I ordered the honey fried chicken and man oh man was the bar set to an almighty high, fried chicken never tasted so cluckin good and I'm not sure if it ever will again. The batter had a nice pinch of South African spices mixed in and it was both sticky and crunchy all at the same time, the chicken was juicy and succulent and those black pepper crumpets were a taste explosion. There was a wait because it's made to order and my Goddess was it worth it - 'ell yeah 🤘 I live in South Kildare and I'm so coming back to try some more and get in for opening and grab a freshly baked bread, by lunch time there wasn't a loaf to be had. It's been a while since a cafe has wowed me beyond wow. The staff are lovely and very helpful and chatty. I will...

Had the absolute pleasure of dining at Lekker, a beautiful independent artisan restaurant and café in Thomastown, run by the incredibly talented French-South African chef duo, Ashika and Julien.
I attended their monthly supper club, and the whole evening was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The passion for food and creativity was clear in every detail.
Each of the three courses was stunning — beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. The quality, presentation, and originality were outstanding.
Huge thanks to the chefs for sharing your passion and creating something so special. Can’t wait to return for the next supper club!
