It's Ok, families welcome.
The pub shares the same owners as the The Queens in Douglas, so it shares the same menu, which is typical pub grub: fish and chips, chicken shnitzel, ham and eggs, burger and chips etc.
There are some specials, which obviously vary. During our visit these included an appetising sounding seabass fillet and an extra large lamb and mint pie, which I opted for.
The pie was a suet based, which is my favourite pie casing, with lovely lamb chunks in tasty gravy, with very nice mint sauce, sweet garden peas and home made chunky chips. Being picky, the pie case was a bit dry and it would have been nice to have a bit more filling, so it was a bit mediocre. Which is not unusual for identikit pub fare. That said, the dish was more than I could handle, so full marks for a decent sized portion.
The pub itself is nice and welcoming, with a modern interior. It was nice to be welcomed with my family in tow and other families were equally welcomed. Waiting time for food was average, so no issues about starving while it's being cooked.
Friendly staff, reasonable beer selection, decent parking and beer garden at the front.

Read moreProbably my favourite pub in the world, based on many vistits during many TT fortnight. So this is a bikers perspective of the pub at its busiest time of the year. It can get absolutely shoulder to shoulder packed during race week, but the owners and staff pull out all the stops to keep the beer flowing and still have the time to make you welcome. When it's quiet it's a really nice atmosphere in there too. Beer garden at the front is a great place to spectate the races. It's also a Marshall's point. You can get directly from the pub to the school yard (school empty during TT) to spectate from the inside of Douglas Corner for a change. During races when the road is closed you will be trapped inside the course at the Mitre, so you are there for the session. Staff are friendly, beer is as good as anywhere on the Island, and there's plenty of room outside for when the...
Read moreAll tables were reserved so the choice was to sit outside but we were told that at least three tables were waiting for food. In other words it would be a while before we received food. That would be fine if we could sit inside but although it is summer there is a cool breeze that would have been too chilly to wait a while for food in. Went to the Mitre when the pie week was on in March. Pie week started on a Monday, we went on the Monday to be told that the kitchens didn't open on Monday. Although they open to the public they don't seem to make much effort. Food is good when you get to eat it but don't expect them to juggle any balls for you, the...
