We booked a B&B holiday at the Railway Station Hotel because of the reviews of meals and availability of on site parking.|When we arrived we followed the 'car park' sign to a small gravel area in front of garage doors behind the hotel, a bit wary of parking in front of garage doors we parked on the little lane at the side and went to check in. We walked into the bar area and were given a very friendly welcome but informed that meals were no longer available, The Railway Station Hotel was now only B&B because of difficulty in hiring a chef. I wish the web site had been updated to inform guests of this or an email to future guests as we had hoped to have my birthday meal there.|We were shown to our room which was fine for us, bed lovely and comfortable, good shower, plenty lovely white towels and a view over fields and village. We were given a menu sheet to select our breakfast time and menu choice.|After a great night's sleep we went down to breakfast, lovely choice of fresh fruits, cereals, yogurts, honey and juices. Then our choice of cooked breakfast arrived which was delicious. Andrea was one of the most helpful and friendly hosts you could ask for and, on realising it was my 70th birthday, suggested a variety of restaurants, she was happy to book for us. We later realised that she had asked our chosen restaurant for special treatment which they certainly gave us and we arrived back to our room to a beautiful vase of orange and white roses.|Every restaurant suggested was excellent and we had a brilliant holiday, not least due to the friendliness of the staff of the Railway Station Hotel.|We had to leave early on our last day to catch the ferry, Andrea arranged a lovely cold breakfast tray to our room the previous evening so we could enjoy a breakfast before leaving.|The hotel is right next to the steam railway which runs from Port Erin to Douglas, what a way to travel and be dropped off at the door. There are also bus stops very close by. We bought a Go Explore travel card which cost us about £38 each and gave us unlimited travel on all island trains and buses including the Snaefell Mountain Train and Douglas Horse Drawn Tram.|Port Erin and St Marys are lovely little harbour towns and are within easy walking distance. (Approx 10mins to St Marys and 20 to Port Erin)|The Station Hotel is a pub with rooms, which we would definitely return to, even if they haven't found a new chef 😊|(There are other reviews under The Station Hotel on Tripadvisor)||Thank you everyone at The Railway...

Read moreWe were disappointed they didn’t do restaurant food anymore having read the first class feedbacks before we booked. It is now bed & breakfast only. The breakfast is quite varied and I can recommend Andrea’s Full-English and they always ask if you require more toast or tea. ||There are restaurants and a diner fish & chip shop a short walk into the town and Andrea did say that should we wish to order food in she would supply crockery and cutlery so that we could eat it in the Bar. However this was not necessary as we found very good places to eat each night in Douglas, The Sound and Castletown.||The rooms are clean, smart and comfortable, and being next to a station of the famous I.O.M. Steam Railway is a huge plus point. You can travel the whole length of the line from Port Erin to Douglas and all the stops in between; Andrea can supply you with a timetable. I recommend you visit Castletown where it has the most complete medieval castle in Europe. We bought a 3-Day Travel Card for £34 each which includes Trains, Trams, and Buses. Good value a few trips on the train makes it worth it. (i.e. £12.40 return each from Port St Mary to Douglas)||Being a Pub you can always pop down for a drink in the bar in the evening which has live music at the weekends. What’s...
