Al Hayam — Restaurant in Ashkelon

Tasted pretty decent. Service average. Prices are on par with Washington DC or NYC, which is a bit shocking for a provincial town like that. I ordered only one dish, the seabass and for the price I expected at least a little bread and maybe a tiny mezze. Considering this city is ON the Mediterranean, you'd expect fish to be more reasonable priced. I don't eat meat so there were just the two options, so I went with what I grew up eating in Israel, a whole grilled fish. It was grilled well, the side sauce was like a spicy Mayo but with Moroccan spices and oily grilled/baked potatoes. If this Moroccan restaurant was not so expensive I would recomend it better, but with such prices i had higher expectations. I must admit we took some vegetarian dishes and not the tempting meat ones. We had a couscous, eggplant carpaccio and mixed salads plate. Descent place for Fish, not lots of selection, the grilled while Bream was good but only came with half potato and half of a tomato. The salads was extra, they self 10 kind of salad in small ramekin but enough and tasty.over...
